This World Rabies Day, let’s talk about something every pet parent should know: rabies is preventable. 🐾

Keeping your pet’s rabies vaccination up to date is one of the most important steps you can take to protect them, your family and your community.

Rabies is a serious viral disease that affects the nervous system and is almost always fatal once clinical signs appear. Vaccination and responsible animal care play a key role in preventing it.

As pet parents, remember to:
🐾 Keep vaccinations up to date.
🐾 Avoid unnecessary contact between your pets and unfamiliar animals.
🐾 If your pet is bitten or scratched, contact your veterinarian promptly.

And if you are bitten or scratched by an animal that could have rabies, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.

The PAKSAM team, led by Dr. Arjun Kumar Adhikari, had the opportunity to meet with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay and present the vision for the proposed PAKSAM Institute of Technical Education: an initiative aimed at establishing a private veterinary college in Sikkim.

The discussion centred around creating stronger opportunities in veterinary education while nurturing local talent and opening meaningful pathways for the youth of Sikkim.

We are grateful for the encouragement and support extended by the Hon’ble Chief Minister and the Government of Sikkim as we work towards taking this vision forward.

For PAKSAM, this is about more than building an institution.
It is about building knowledge, creating opportunities and contributing to the future of veterinary care in Sikkim.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Sir,

I am deeply grateful for the gracious opportunity to meet you at Mintokgang yesterday along with the members of PAKSAM.

We sincerely appreciate your kind encouragement and your vision for strengthening veterinary education in Sikkim. Your assurance of every possible support from the Government of Sikkim is a great source of encouragement for us as we work towards a private veterinary college dedicated to creating quality educational opportunities for the youth of our state.

Your emphasis on giving due preference to local faculty and creating meaningful opportunities for our young people is especially inspiring. We are committed to carrying forward this initiative in that very spirit and contributing to the development of Sikkim.

Thank you, Hon’ble Sir, for your valuable time, encouragement, and unwavering support. We look forward to working closely with the Government of Sikkim in taking this important initiative forward.

A few glimpses from our International Cat Day celebration at Paksam, Cosmos, Siliguri.

The day included free cat health check-ups and free vaccinations, along with lots of cuddles, treats and happy moments with our feline visitors.
