🐕🐕🐾🐾 Pelvic fracture and its surgical management & FHO (Femoral Head osteotomy )
Pelvic fracture is the name given to any fractures or breaks to the bones of the pelvis. The pelvis consists of the right and left hip bones, each formed by the union of the p***s, ischium, and ilium bones, together with the midline sacrum and coccyx.
Fracture commonly occur to dogs or cats after they are hit by a vehicle. Fracture may or may not also involve the acetabulum (which is the socket the femur sits within), which forms the Coxo-femoral joint. If involved, then it influences the degree of movement that the joint can achieve, which leads to chronic pain and inflammation.
An FHO, or femoral head ostectomy, is a surgical procedure removing the head and neck of the femur (the long leg bone or thighbone). The primary goal of an FHO is to remove bone-on- bone contact, restoring pain-free mobility.
