A huge Thank You to Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders' Association for inviting me to judge the 2026 UK flock competition. It was a real honour to be asked to take on the role.
Over the last number of weeks, I have travelled across Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales judging 40 flocks as part of the competition.
Along the way, it was fantastic to meet so many enthusiastic young breeders, novice breeders just starting out on their journey, and established, experienced breeders who continue to drive the breed forward.
Thank you to everyone who welcomed me, shared their flocks and made the experience so enjoyable. It has been a privilege to see the standard of Hampshire Down sheep across the UK and NI and to be part of such a fantastic competition.
My wife April and little apprentice Isobel joined the last leg of the trip through the Scottish highlands, before returning to Ireland for the annual awards night at Killeavy castle.
Congratulations to all award winners and every flock who participated. I look forward to meeting many of you again soon.
