πŸ• Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI) has no known cause, but this is what we know so far πŸ‘‡

β˜€οΈ Seasonal means it is most prevalent between August and November
🌳 Dogs fall ill roughly 1 - 3 days after a woodland walk
πŸ€’ Symptoms may include vomiting, lethargy,
abdominal pain, not eating and muscle tremors

SCI can be fatal and although the cause is currently unknown, we focus on treating the symptoms and most cases recover.

If you suspect SCI or have any concerns, please ring us straight away on 01904 653961.

Our Puppy Preschool class of July 26 have graduated! πŸ•πŸŽ“

You've been a fantastic quartet - super sweet, playful and joyous πŸ₯°. Three of the biggest pups we've had in one go, it felt like they barely fit in the room by the end, and little Snowy who's confidence playing with the big kids was seriously impressive!! ⭐

Good luck as you move onto big school pups 🏫 πŸŽ’ ⭐!

How can you help your dog when they're 'in heat'? πŸ•

When female dogs are 'in heat' (also called being 'in season') they are in the fertile period of their reproductive cycle. Most dogs come into heat for the first time at 6 months of age, but little Cindy here has waited until she was 18 months - but it's finally here πŸŽ‰!

Most cycles last around 2 to 4 weeks and you can do the following things to help your dog during this time:
βœ… Keep them on a lead on walks to keep them away from unneutered males
βœ… Stick to normal routines - changes such as locking them in one room because of bleeding can distress them (if you plan on doing this during a heat introduce this in advance)
βœ… Provide lots of comfort
βœ… Allow them to rest as much as they need
βœ… Provide enrichment options to help keep them entertained while they're not allowed off lead
βœ… Dog diapers/ pants can be a good way to keep them and your house clean. Change and wash these regularly and allow your dog time without them so they can clean themselves.
βœ… If you're worried about anything during their heat contact your vet

As temperatures rise β˜€οΈ, so does the risk of flystrike for our fluffy companions πŸ‡. Flystrike, a potentially fatal condition, occurs when flies lay eggs on a rabbit's fur, which then hatch into maggots and feed on their flesh.

πŸ” Keep a close eye on your rabbit's hygiene and living environment, especially during warmer months. Regularly check for any signs of soiled fur, wounds, or unusual behaviour.

βœ…Prevention is key: ensure your rabbit's living space is clean and dry, and consider using flystrike prevention methods recommended by your vet.

🚨 If you suspect flystrike, seek veterinary assistance immediately. Early detection and treatment are crucial for the well-being of your furry friend!
