πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈπŸ’™ Meet some of our amazing Veterinary Nurse Team: Jenny, Amanda, Jess, Lucy, Meg and Dom and their gorgeous pets πŸ’™πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ

We have an incredible team of Veterinary Nurses here at Tower who work tirelessly to do everything from monitoring anaesthetics 🩺, taking bloods 🩸, performing post operative checks, complex wound care πŸ€• and nursing critically ill patients, to comforting owners πŸ€—, running lab tests πŸ§ͺ and stepping in to help the vet with pretty much any request they have! Don't forget they do all this while juggling cleaning 🧹, answering emergency phone calls, πŸ“± and preparing patients for theatre! It's non-stop and veterinary nurses are incredibly multi skilled and multi talented! πŸ’ͺ

This month is Vet Nurse Awareness Month and we want to say thank you to all our incredible nurses for the amazing work they do πŸ‘.

Some of our Puppy Pre-Schoolers had their first experience learning about tooth brushing last week πŸͺ₯ πŸ¦·πŸ’•.

They all started by licking the doggy toothpaste so they knew it was nice and then once they were comfortable built up to using a finger. The owners did a brief introduction to placing their toothpasted finger on the pup's teeth and finished up with a treat to reward them 😊.

We want all our pups to have a positive experience so encourage owners to start very gradually to ensure pups are comfortable with the experience.

Our puppy parents get a tooth brushing kit and will build up their practice very gradually increasing time in the mouth until the pups are more comfortable before moving to a finger brush and then a toothbrush! πŸͺ₯

It's a long gradual process but so worthwhile 😊.

β˜€οΈβ˜€οΈβ˜€οΈ Heatstroke concern?? β˜€οΈβ˜€οΈβ˜€οΈ

⚠️ Remember: Wet then Vet. 🌊πŸ₯πŸ‘‡

Quickly wet the dog with cool water around 15 degrees (not freezing cold). If not available, any water that is cooler than the dog’s skin feels.

Cool water, around 15Β°C, is ideal, but any water will help. If you only have soft drinks, ensure they don't contain xylitol, and avoid pouring them on the dog's head. Wetting the dog will promote cooling through evaporation. Do this before taking them to the vet but don't spend too much time on it.

Afterward, contact the vet and inform them about the situation and how long it will take you to arrive. This allows the vet's team to prepare for your dog's arrival and increases their chances of receiving prompt treatment.

Avoid using wet towels on the dog as they can trap heat. However, specialised cooling vests that function through evaporation are suitable.

Let's talk about Buster Collars... πŸˆπŸ•

Elizabethan Collars, The Cone of Shame, The Lampshade πŸ›‹οΈ, The Bucket πŸͺ£...

Whatever you call them we know they're not always the easiest and we know lots of pets aren't a big fan either. They are however an extremely important way to prevent infections and self trauma.

So here are some tips to help your pet cope:

πŸ• Try raising the food bowl off the floor so it's easier for your pet to get to cone over to eat.
🐈 Pets wearing collars can't self groom (this is especially important for cat's wellbeing) so if they will tolerate it spend extra time grooming them while they're wearing one.
πŸ• Ensure it's a good fit. You should be able to get just 2 fingers under so it doesn't push on their neck but also so they can't get it off. It should reach the end of their nose as a minimum. If you're not sure it's the right fit give us a call.
🐈 If your pet has a collar the fit is often improved by threading this around instead of bandage.
πŸ• Wipe inside the collar regularly to remove food debris and saliva to keep them comfortable.
🐈 Have supervised cone free time. This MUST be heavily supervised to prevent them reaching the area, but time with it off to play, groom, eat and perform natural behaviour can be fantastic for their wellbeing. Just don't take your eyes off them for a second!

If you're still not so sure, the great news is there are often other options...
πŸ‘• Pet shirts - like pet baby grows
🎈 Inflatable collars
These can often work for lots of situations and procedures and give your pet a more comfortable time. Just ask us about them when you're in.

Thanks Tula for being such a wonderful cone model ❀️.

We've had a bit of a blast from the past recently... ◀️ ⏰

πŸ• Puppy Preschool Graduates Malakai and Betty are all grown up πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ and came in for neutering.

It's so lovely to see the journey of our wonderful pups and it's even better when our Pup Preschool leaders Jess and Lucy get to be a friendly face for them during their stay πŸ₯°.
