🐾 We hope you enjoyed meeting some of our Volunteer team for Volunteer week ! 🐾
οΏΌ
We had lots of messages about volunteering after posting these and so we thought we will tell you all about how it works!οΏΌ

We now have two volunteer categories:
πŸ”Ή Main Volunteer Team – Non-student volunteers aged 20+
πŸ”Ή Student Volunteers – For college/university placements (minimum age 16+)

This change helps us maintain a strong and consistent core volunteer team.

⚠️ Please note: We are not currently recruiting student volunteers at this time.

We are recruiting for:
🦎 Animal Care Volunteers
Our Animal Care Volunteers support the keepers with:
βœ”οΈ Animal husbandry and enrichment
βœ”οΈ Enclosure cleaning and maintenance
βœ”οΈ General zoo upkeep
βœ”οΈ Day-to-day care tasks

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life.
All we ask is that you are:
Passionate, Hard-working, Reliable and Able to commit to at least 1 day per fortnight

Please note that opportunities are limited, and successful applicants will need to complete a trial period.

It’s the last day of Volunteer week and we are shining a light on our volunteer team!

Over the last few days we have shared a story from one of our volunteers about their time volunteering at Cedars Nature Centre πŸ’š

Today’s Volunteer is Adie, one of our longest servicing volunteers πŸ˜€

"I’ve been volunteering at Cedars Nature since the beginning. I can’t believe my luck to work with these wonderful animals and great crew.

I’m known as the chinchilla lady for my love of chinchillas and having my own at home, now 19 years old.

I also love the ferrets for their cuteness and their fun ways.”

"Volunteering at cedars has helped me so many ways it’s such a positive environment.

I’ve learn a lot from volunteering there, everyone is so welcoming and supportive like there is not one bit of negativity there.

What I enjoy the most about being there is making new friends and learning so much.”

"I have been a volunteer at Cedars Nature Centre for 4 years and I love it.

As a volunteer here I have the opportunity to work directly with a variety of animals.

I am involved with every aspect of their care, including feeding, enrichment and of course cleaning their enclosures.

I really enjoy every minute of my time here and thoroughly recommend it."

Over the next few days we will share a story from one of our volunteers about their time volunteering at Cedars Nature Centre πŸ’š

Today’s Volunteer is Jess.

β€œVolunteering at Cedars Nature Centre Zoo is something I genuinely look forward to every week.
It has had a huge positive impact on my mental wellbeing, and being around the animals brings me so much happiness.

I love working with such a variety of animals, especially our new cockatiels.
Watching the animals thrive while learning their individual behaviours is incredibly rewarding.

Everyone at Cedars are so welcoming and supportive, and I've met some amazing people who make me feel like part of a family.

What I enjoy most is leaving each day feeling accomplished and knowing I've helped make a difference.

Unlike a normal job, I never dread coming in – I'm always excited for the day ahead and grateful to be part of such a special place.”
