Say hi to Head of Nursing Services, Sam Lewis! 👋

Sam has been a Registered Veterinary Nurse for 25 years! She has worked in many different settings and roles, including primary care, referral, training and development.

Sam has worked at Paragon since we opened in 2018, and at the end of 2023 she stepped into the role of Head of Nursing Services. She oversees the entire nursing team, with responsibilities that include ensuring colleagues are fully trained and supported, to auditing quality of care provided to our patients and continually developing the nursing team. 🫶

One of her favourite parts of the job is supporting nurses to grow and develop to reach their full potential. She also enjoys working as part of the team on the clinic floor.

When she is not at Paragon, Sam can be found with her crazy Labrador - Rocket - or on a lake sailing around on her little boat - or swimming if there’s too much wind and she falls in! 🙈

Earlier this year, Paragon’s Ward Team Lead, Lydia, did an amazing job creating a new teaching programme aimed at building confidence when undertaking CPR. ❤️

So far 20 Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses and Interns have completed the course and can now be relied upon to lead CPR within the hospital. As well as aiding CPR lead, the course aims to upskill all staff, so we have a bigger group of people that are highly skilled in performing CPR.

Lydia is an official instructor for the RECOVER guidelines, which empowers people to effectively perform CPR on cats and dogs. She incorporated these guidelines along with human medical research and training methods to create the teaching programme.

We’re delighted to report that everyone who took the course did amazingly well during their final simulation exam!

We recently received this wonderful feedback from Ralph’s owners: 🐶

“Paragon provided expertise and compassionate care for my dog, I had total confidence in them to do the best for my pet.

“James Rushton and Matthew Dobson were brilliant at explaining everything - nothing seemed too much trouble. All the staff there were very friendly and appeared to have a genuine desire to do the best for the pets in their care.”

If you’re visiting Paragon with your pet this month, please pop by reception to see our lovely team and support the Poppy Appeal - helping us honour and remember our armed forces. ❤️

We have plenty of poppies available! Please note we’re only able to accept cash donations, so don’t forget to bring some change if you’d like to contribute.

A big thank you to Adam Bell, who puts in a tremendous effort every year to support this wonderful cause. 🌺

Lovely Eli took a fall down a flight of steps and started limping. 💔 His owners acted quickly, seeking advice from their local vets, Wildbore Vetstop.

Eli was diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament which needed surgery, which is when he was promptly referred to the Orthopaedic team at Paragon.

Eli was such a good boy in the hospital and quickly captured the hearts of the team. He had his surgery and was discharged the following day.

We wish him a speedy recovery and that he’s back on his feet in no time! 🐕

Happy Howl-oween! 🎃

Whether it’s trick or treating, or watching spooky movies at home, it’s important we make sure spooky season is a safe time for our pets.

While costumes may be fun for us, they are bad for our pets. Dressing up can cause stress, overheating, or restrict movement, and no one wants a vet visit this spooky season! 👻

It’s also important to remember chocolates, sweets, and wrappers can be dangerous if gobbled up by our four-legged friends, so keep them safely out of paw’s reach! 🍫🚫
