โš ๏ธ Recent news stories reminds us how serious dog bites can be, but also the amount of misinformation and prejudice.

Any dog can bite, regardless of breed, size, age, or how loving they usually are. Most bites donโ€™t come โ€œout of nowhereโ€. Dogs often show signs that theyโ€™re scared, overwhelmed, or uncomfortable. So here are the common warning signs to watch out for:

๐Ÿšฉ Stiff body posture or freezing
๐Ÿšฉ Turning their head away and showing the whites of the eyes
๐Ÿšฉ Lip licking or yawning when not tired
๐Ÿšฉ Growling, snapping, or barking
๐Ÿšฉ Trying to move away or hide

Thereโ€™s simple ways to reduce risk and help a scared dog when they start showing the subtler signs of being uncomfortable.

๐Ÿถ Give dogs space, especially when eating, sleeping, or unwell
๐Ÿถ Avoid approaching unfamiliar dogs without the ownerโ€™s permission
๐Ÿถ Respect when a dog shows they need distance

๐Ÿšธ Always supervise children around dogs
๐Ÿšธ Teach children not to hug dogs or put their faces close

This isnโ€™t about finger pointing to the breed of dog or the owner, itโ€™s about understanding dog behaviour, building safer interactions, and protecting everyone. ๐Ÿ’–

Weโ€™re so excited to share our lovely herb garden, planted and cared for by our wonderful nurse SJ ๐Ÿ’š

This special space is more than just greenery โ€“ it provides fresh, fragrant enrichment for our small furry inpatients ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿน From mint to rosemary and sage, these herbs are a big hit with our patients! ๐ŸŒฑ

In todayโ€™s videos, youโ€™ll see two very sweet brothers on their recovery journey after their castration surgery ๐Ÿ‡โœจ
One is happily tucking into some fresh mint straight away (what a star!), while his brother needed a little extra support to get started ๐ŸŒฟ

As shown in the third clip, he was gently syringe fed Critical Care recovery food to help get his appetite going. After a few feeds, he was back to nibbling on the herbs himself โ€“ exactly what we want to see ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’š

Itโ€™s so important for rabbits to keep eating to prevent gut stasis, especially after surgery. Sometimes they just need a bit of encouragement, and weโ€™re always here to help them along the way โ˜บ๏ธ

A huge thank you to SJ for creating such a thoughtful and beneficial addition to our care ๐Ÿซถ

Planning a trip to the EU with your dog, cat, or ferret? Please take note of important rule changes coming into effect this Wednesday, 22nd April 2026.

โ€‹Starting this Wednesday, there are significant changes to the travel documents required for GB residents:

โ€‹๐Ÿšซ EU Pet Passports: From 22nd April, EU pet passports held by GB residents will no longer be valid for travel from Great Britain to the EU. This includes passports originally issued in the EU or Northern Ireland. EU pet passports can now only be issued to pet owners whose main residence is within the European Union.

โ€‹โœ… Animal Health Certificates (AHC): All GB residents travelling to the EU with their pets will now need to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

โ€‹๐Ÿ“„ New Templates: The official AHC templates are being updated. While there is a short transition period where old templates will be accepted, we will be moving to the new documentation as soon as it is released by APHA.

โ€‹What should you do?

If you have travel plans booked for this week or the coming months, please contact us as soon as possible to ensure your paperwork is compliant with these new rules. We recommend checking the entry requirements for your specific destination country well in advance of your departure.

โ€‹There are currently no changes to the requirements for pets entering Great Britain from the EU.

โ€‹Questions? Give our team a call at the surgery or drop us a message! ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Meet Mango & Hazel ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

We had the absolute pleasure of caring for this gorgeous pair recently ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค

Mango (our handsome boy) came in for his castration, while lovely Hazel visited us for her spay procedure. Both were super brave and handled their day like little stars ๐ŸŒŸ

Weโ€™re so happy to report that they recovered beautifully! ๐Ÿฉบโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน Hazel especially wasted no time bouncing back โ€” as you can see, sheโ€™s been enjoying her food very happily post-op ๐Ÿ˜‹ (and rocking her adorable medical pet shirt to keep her safe and comfy while she heals ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿฑ).

Itโ€™s always wonderful to see our patients doing so well after their procedures โ€” and these two definitely stole our hearts ๐Ÿ’•

Wishing Mango & Hazel lots of cuddles and continued smooth healing at home ๐Ÿก๐Ÿพ
