Meet Shadow, one of our bravest patients! π
Poor Shadow had quite a scare when his leg was run over. The impact caused a severe degloving injury, leaving the bone completely exposed (though thankfully, no fractures!).
Our team immediately got to work β under general anaesthetic we thoroughly flushed the wound and applied a wet-to-dry dressing to encourage healing. The next day, the process was repeated to ensure the area stayed clean and healthy.
Once the swelling had settled, we were able to carefully debride the damaged tissue and close almost half of the wound with sutures. Unfortunately, swelling and skin retraction meant the rest had to heal gradually β but Shadow was a total superstar through it all!
Over the following weeks, Shadow visited us every other day for further cleaning, debriding, and suturing β all under general anaesthetic to keep him comfortable. Slowly but surely, we were able to close the wound completely and move to conscious dressing changes with our nursing team (and plenty of cuddles, of course!).
Once his sutures were removed, we began laser therapy at each bandage change to boost healing even more. And last Fridayβ¦ Shadow had his bandage removed for the very last time! π
Weβre thrilled with his recovery and so proud of this gorgeous boy. Heβs been such a joy to care for, and although weβll miss seeing him so often, weβre delighted to have signed him off with a wagging tail and a fully healed leg. πͺβ¨
