We are excited to announce the expansion of our in-house diagnostic testing services with the addition of the Enalees Epona®️ Equine testing platform.Using advanced Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) technology, we can now provide rapid, in-house molecular diagnostic testing for a range of important equine respiratory and bacterial infections, including:🦠 Strangles🦠 Equine Influenza🦠 Equine Herpesvirus (EHV)By offering fast, accurate PCR-quality molecular diagnostics in-house, we can deliver same day results, enabling earlier diagnosis, prompt treatment decisions, and improved management. Wormer resistance is now reported in all common horse worms and poses a significant threat to our horses health and welfare.

Official guidelines highlight that risk assessments are the first crucial step in worm control, providing insights into the infection risk level of each horse. Once the risk level is determined, appropriate management, testing, and treatment steps can be implemented to minimise the worm infection in the environment.

These approaches break transmission cycles, and ensure that monitoring tools, such as faecal egg counts and antibody tests, are used effectively to ensure that treatments are only given to those horses that genuinely need it rather than blanket worming at set intervals. The risk of resistance is therefore reduced which helps maintain the long-term effectiveness of the available wormers we have available.

With our monthly focus being Parasites and Worming, we wanted to give you some preventative measures to help avoid your horses getting any unwanted friends.

💩 Poo picking at least twice a week to help break the life-cycle of hatching eggs
🌿 Cross grazing
🐴 Low stocking density - not having too many horses on small paddocks
🌾 Resting paddocks
😷 Isolating new arrivals until a worm count can be done and treatment given if needed

Although it isn’t a preventative measure, it is also recommended as best practice to do worm egg counts every 8-12 weeks, tapeworm testing at least once a year and ideally testing for encysted redworm once yearly. These tests give us the best picture to tell us whether a horse needs to be wormed and with which product. It also avoids giving unnecessary treatment which contributes to building resistance.

Our monthly focus is Parasites and Worming and we wanted to highlight our in-house worm egg counts.

For only £10, we can test your horse’s sample and give you quick results with advice on worming if this is required. This excludes the faff of external lab testing and is a quicker, more efficient service.

If you would like your horse to be tested, either drop off a sample to practice, or ask a vet to take it back from your appointment with them. We ask for samples to be around the size of a golf ball, to be taken from different parts of the poo and to be labelled with your horses name and your last name.

Part of our monthly focus is Equine Asthma, so we wanted to make you aware of the signs to look out for:

💨 Chronic cough, especially during exercise or when eating hay
💨 Increased respiratory rate
💨 Nostril flaring
💨 Nasal discharge
💨 Audible wheezing or crackling sounds
💨 Tiring more quickly than usual and prolonged recovery after exercise
💨 Symptoms become worse in dusty environments, stables or when eating dry hay

Due to the current hot weather, we will not be routinely sedating horses over the next two days unless in an emergency situation.

If your horse has an upcoming appointment that requires sedation, we may need to temporarily postpone this until conditions improve. We will be in touch if your appointment is affected.

🟢 From 1st July 2026, digital recording in the FEI HorseApp is mandatory
🟢 A vaccination given within 7 days of a competition = elimination
