Encouraging your child to read out loud to your dog helps build their confidence with reading as well as a calm interaction with the dog which builds a strong happy bond. Emmet & Ivy are both taking part in the reading challenge from the library (Check out your local library to see if they are taking part) Which means Chilli is having a lot of cuddles on the sofa while being read to.

Last week we watched the new Netflix film Kpop demon hunters which has meant the songs from the film have been on our family playlist non stop since (if you have kids you will understand)

So when I asked Emmet if we could do a loose lead video with Chilli he said only if it's to one of the songs.

Myth buster!

It is a really common myth that a "good dog" will tolerate anything kids do, especially if the dog has grown up with the child. The truth is just like humans dogs will have a limit to how much they will tolerate before reacting and the best way to keep everyone safe is to set boundaries and have active supervision at all times.

Fun family adventure walk around Irchester country park today.
We practiced Chilli's recall, loose lead, sit/wait, listening to the children giving cues around other dogs (so proud of this) as well as calmly saying hello to lots of kids who very politely asked 💕

Seeing Emmet and Ivy train Chilli with patience and kindness makes me so happy 😁 teaching the next generation of dog trainers/owners to do right from the very start.

Have Kids started to whine that they are bored with just two weeks into the summer holidays? Try this: Draw Your Dog in a happy mood. For other kids Ask them to draw how the dog looks when they’re happy, scared, tired.
Great activity to get the kids to think about dogs body language.

Did you know my degree is in zoo biology?
Did you also know I'm a huge animal nerd who even on my day "off" spends it learning everything about animals as possible haha 😂

Today's lesson was Enrichment! We use enrichment with chilli all the time and the kids help me with all of it (lick mats, snuggle mats, scatter feeds, kongs etc) so while at whipsande today we were finding all the enrichment items in each enclosure and I'm so happy to say almost every species had something.

If a yak can learn to push a treat ball so can your dog!

The best way to build a strong positive bond between your Toddler and Dog is to get your Toddler involved as much as you can in the training and day to day care. With lots of adult supervision to keep everyone safe.

Teaching your toddler/child to ‘ask before petting’ can prevent fear-based bites. Practice on a stuffed animal first to make it fun! If your child has never touched a dog before demonstrating how much pressure to use and in which direction can make the experience better for both your child and the dog.

A dog’s body language speaks volumes! Can your child recognize a stressed dog? Show them the two pictures of the French bulldogs and ask which one they think is happy? which one is nervous/scared? how can we tell.
