Can I give my dog frozen treats? 🧊

☀️ The weather has really warmed up over the last few days, and is set to stay that way for a while longer. This has meant a lot of mixed messages being shared over social media.

😞One post that I see frequently shared with regards to ice cubes & frozen treats is well-meaning but a little misleading. The original poster unfortunately misinterpreted what was said by the vet and, when recounting the advice, missed a crucial element of the advice - that the advice was specific to dogs who are experiencing hyperthermia/heatstroke.

✅ If your dog is not showing any signs of heat stroke then it is safe to give them frozen treats, ice cubes and doggy ice cream. You can add ice cubes to their water, let them play with ice cubes or freeze treats inside ice cubes for them.

❌If a dog is showing signs of heatstroke then it can be dangerous to give them frozen treats, ice cubes and icy cold water. Instead you should prioritise getting them to the vet for treatment and using safe methods of cooling on the way.

☀️Some signs of heatstroke are:
- excessive, vigorous panting
- agitation
- dark red, sticky/tacky gums

💦Safe cooling methods:
- stand the dog in cool/tepid water
- wipe the dog's paws, abdomen, arm pits and neck with a wet cloth, refresh and repeat.
- use a fan/air con

‼️Priority should always be to get the dog to the vet as a matter of urgency.
🌡No dogs have died from missing a walk but heatstroke can be fatal.

Prevention is the best option. Why not try some fun training or enrichment in the garden, play in a paddling pool, eat some tasty, frozen snacks or just chill out in front of the fan!

It's with a heavy heart to tell you that Ginge, the OG Moonraven Cavalier yesterday gained his angel wings. Over his 11 years this boy who we fell on love with on sight, has given us his fair share of laughs and heart attacks! We nicknamed him Dangerous Ginge for a reason! We miss him immeasurably and the hole he left behind will never be filled. He left us in almost the spot he was born. In our arms surrounded by those who loved him deeply. Life will never be the same again. Wait for me at the bridge my boy...we miss you, thank you for everything ❤

We are taking a break from breeding for a couple of years, we will definitely be back. We will be keeping the page open so we can keep you updated. When we lost Miley getting another puppy was put on the back burner, losing her broke our hearts. But we will be back in the meantime Mileys favourite treat! If using the peaMUTT butter please make sure it is the pet version...Nana Nic Creations™️ are expecting some in ;)

I thought this was brilliant and such a clever way to help realise the difference. Seeing obesity in any dog makes me so sad especially our breed, I'm not perfect we have a girl whose weight we constantly struggle with. With their hearts the way they are and the extra stress on their hips and elbows its so very very important we keep their weights down the very best we can.

😬 Let’s just put this in perspective not just for Labradors, but for all dogs.

➡️ For some reason we can identify what overweight and obesity looks like for humans, but we struggle to do it for our dogs.

👉🏽 How does your dog stack up?

➡️ Is your dog overweight?

➡️ Or perhaps you may have a performance dog that is a little too skinny?

➡️ Maybe your dog is looking good or is conditioned?

✅ Be a responsible owner and know the difference.

Thank you all for your condolences, we are still in shock. It was Miley that started Moonraven Cavaliers. We were blessed to have her. She lives on in her puppies, we love you Miss Moo xXx

I cant believe I am writing these words...last night our beautiful Miley was given her wings as she passed to go play at Rainbow Bridge. We are beyond devastated, Miley was definitely the matriarch of the gang and the void she has left can never be filled. We are grateful for the 10 1/2 years that we spent together, but to be frank it wasn't long enough, forever wouldnt have been long enough. She is and always will be our princess. Love you Princess, until we meet again, behave up there...xXx
