The season I love but also slightly dread. 🤧Hayfever turns me into a grumpy mess. But with a sunny morning walk and a spaniel who keeps choosing you… it's hard to stay miserable for long 🥾🐾🤎

🚨HEATSTOKE KILLS DOGS🚨

It doesn’t always have to be ‘hot’ for an animal to develop heatstroke. Exercising excessively in warm weather, or being left in a warm or humid environment that is poorly ventilated can cause animals to quickly overheat. Avoidance is always best, but it’s important to know the signs of heatstroke so that you can treat your dog appropriately and know when to seek veterinary attention should they be unfortunate enough to suffer from it.

If you are concerned that your pet is overheating, you should act immediately, as heatstroke can rapidly become a life-threatening emergency; We recommend to “cool first, transport second” as the immediate first aid response for dogs with heatstroke. Owners should also seek veterinary advice as soon as possible.

A little retrieving mixed into Pepper’s walk just to keep her mind working (it’s her favourite toy).
These tiny moments make such a difference. A quick game here and there helps reinforce cues, adds variety, and keeps her brain engaged. It’s amazing how much calmer and more connected they feel when training is woven into everyday life.
👉 Follow along for more real‑life out and about training ideas to make your everyday walks easier and more enjoyable for both of you 🐾🥾

Pet gundogs aren’t designed to stroll politely through the world with no purpose. When we give them simple, structured games involving retrieving, engagement, find it, everything becomes easier.
If you want a dog who checks in with you instead of the environment, my Beginner Pet Gundog Games Workshop on 6 June in Woodbridge is the perfect place to start.

Pepper loves a retrieve, especially when there is food involved, but this is exactly why the stop whistle is so useful. It teaches your dog to pause even when they really want something. This is not just for working dogs. Pet gundogs benefit from it just as much. If you can interrupt that moment before they run towards a distraction, your walks become calmer and much easier to manage. Steady practice like this builds trust and control without taking the fun away.
If you want your dog to listen even amongst real-life distractions, I can help you get there 🥾🐾Message me or send me an email to find out more 👇

A windy day on a pebble beach is full of distractions, but that is exactly why I like practising recall in places like this. Real life is messy, noisy and unpredictable, and the more your dog learns to come back in different environments, the more reliable they become. It is not about perfection, it is about steady, consistent practice that builds confidence for both of you. If you want recall that works wherever you go, I can help you get there.
