Today is a day I always find difficult. But its a day I reflect on. Open, honest and Raw......
Twenty-two years ago today, when I was just 18 years old, I was woken in the early hours of the morning by my dad and asked to come downstairs. Sitting in our living room were two police officers who told us that my brother, Leo, my best friend, had been killed in a car accident on his way home from work. He was only 19.
Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, and somehow each year I miss him a little more. But I also know he'd be incredibly proud of the life I've fought to build, and that brings me comfort.
Life has thrown its fair share of challenges my way. In 2010, I lost my first son when he was just six weeks old. He died in my arms. In 2019, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and before that I survived years of domestic abuse.
Those experiences have shaped me, but they don't define me.
Every morning I wake up with purpose.
My biggest reason is Rowan. Watching him grow into the amazing young man he is today makes every difficult day worthwhile. I will always do everything I can for him.
I'm also incredibly grateful for Matt, my biggest supporter, my soulmate and my partner in both life and Leads and Love Pet Services. We have built something together that means the world to us.
And then there are the dogs.
Every wagging tail, every muddy paw, every excited greeting reminds me why I love what I do. Being trusted to care for your dogs is something I never take for granted, and they bring so much joy into my life.
Today is a reminder that life can change in an instant. It reminds me to appreciate the people I love, to keep chasing my dreams, to keep showing kindness, and to never take a single day for granted.
Love you always, Leo. I miss you every single day.
Keep looking after my little boy up there until the day we meet again.
Nicole ❤️
