Kittens …..
We are going to post photos of the babies in our care , as we know our supporters love to see them grow up.
However, while we all look at these tiny babies and enjoy watching the general kitten craziness as they start to run around, the sad reality is that they are being born outside, or to families who don’t want them and seek to “ get rid” as soon as possible.
Some of the phone calls and emails we receive are just heartbreaking. Many callers are angry that the female cat they acquired as a cute kitten is now pregnant or has produced kittens, despite having made no effort whatsoever to have her neutered. Several are annoyed with us for not immediately offering to step in and take the “ problem” off their hands , and far too many will demand that we go and collect the cat. They can’t even make the effort to put her in a carrier and bring her to us.
We have had examples of callers stating they want to keep a kitten from the new litter, but “ get rid of” the Mum and the other kittens - or some who are seeking homes for babies who are barely 4/5 weeks old.
Just distressing.
Please , please help us to spread the neuter message locally - especially in Levenshulme where there are so many cats without proper care.
We recently offered 5 spay/ neuters for £10 each which was quickly taken up, but we can’t repeat this as the cost to us is so high.
We need people to take responsibility for ensuring that their cat can’t keep having litters of kittens , and stop this horrific cycle of pregnant females being kicked out as soon as their condition is obvious. Don t get a kitten if you cannot afford to neuter!!
Rescues are full: and we don’t have the funds to neuter on an effective scale.
The babies in our photos are fortunate in that their Mums will be spayed, and the little ones will have the best healthcare available. Others are not so lucky, and are left outside in a terrible state: many will not survive.
