We are a family run Pick Your Own Farm, Shop and Cafe located at the side of the Trent and Mersey Canal in Great Haywood - a beautiful part of Staffordshire. We are committed to sourcing high quality, food and drink from farms and producers within a 30 mile radius of our home, whilst continuing to produce our own fruit, garden vegetables and bedding plants right here on the Farm. nd, our Farm Shop offers a wide range of tasty products for all dietary needs; our Cafe serves home cooked seasonal meals from 'field to plate; our seasonal Plant Centre sells beautiful plants and hanging baskets lovingly nurtured in our own glass house; and we offer 'Pick Your Own' strawberries, raspberries and blackberries during summertime and pumpkins for Halloween! We have some lovely walks and cycle rides which start and finish on our farm, plus host a range of family events throughout the year from murder mystery suppers to creative nature based workshops.

If you have been to our market on the farm events and tried some of the amazing freshly prepared treats from authentic Indian cuisines experts Chickle Graze then you will be pleased to know that as of tomorrow we will be stocking their creations on our Deli counter.

There will be Chicken and Vegetable samosas and Onion Bhajis too…

If you are yet to try them check out our stories and have a look at the fabulous workshop they hosted in our Cafe this evening and have a sneak peek at their goodies!

We have had the most wonderful weather this SUMMER, long may it continue!
It has been lovely to see everyone making the most of our outdoor spaces here at Canalside and enjoying our scenic location.

In our Cafe we have some particularly delicious summer treats to try before the end of the season. With a selection of tasty iced drinks- Frappes, Smoothies, Iced Tea & Coffee and the option to make it personal with a range of lovey syrups to try.

Our specials board is updated daily and is a reflection of Teams creativity with some seasonal summer dishes to try out. Our personal favourites have been the salads of the week, in particular our Canalside Strawberry & Halloumi Salad.

☀SUMMER SWEET PICKS FROM OUR FARM SHOP☀

Here is a quick round up at what our Team favourites have been in the Farm Shop so far this summer.

Our Butchery Team have of course been working none stop making burgers and sausage galore for all those lovely BBQs you have all been having- our counter is still fully stocked with everything you could possibly want for the perfect BBQ dinner time! So get out there and enjoy what is left of this fabulous summer.

The Bakery have been extremely pleased with their new range of cheesecakes that are now a permeant summer fixture and are available from the chilled counter on our Bakery department. Our rolls and flavoured sourdough have been flying out too of course. We are always interested in trying out new flavours so if you have an idea for our flavoured sourdough then speak to one of the team next time you visit!

The Deli Counter have been busy making up all your 'Picky Bits' treats. With bucket loads of coleslaw flying out daily- you simply cant beat fresh, homemade coleslaw! There fresh ciabatta specials have also gone down a treat on a Friday lunchtime...

We have to give our ice cream counter Team a special mention- we think some days have left them with repetitive strain after scooping copious amounts of delicious Snugburys into your cones and tubs!

We have enjoyed seeing you down on the Farm this SUMMER so far and we hope whatever your plans you enjoy the rest of this fabulous AUGUST!

Thank you to everyone who has come out and picked our juicy strawberries over the past few days. We now need a bit more sunshine to ripen up some more of our crops.

If you haven't already given it a go, you may have noticed a fabulous new edition to Canalside- our Milk Vending Machine!

Supplied with milk from just a few miles away in Tixall. How is that for food miles?
The Wright's Family Dairy have a renowned Jersey heard and we have to say their milk is really second to none.

There is the option to have plain Jersey milk or you can enjoy a milkshake!
Current favours include

🥤Salted Caramel

Celebrate National Burger Day with us in our Cafe today and enjoy one of our delicious special burger dishes from our specials menu.

Our Cafe and Butchery Teams have worked together to come up with a fabulous specials menu that we have really struggled to choose a favourite from, as they all sound so mouth-wateringly good!

Handmade here by our Butchers, cooked by our skilled Kitchen Team and served in a bun made fresh by our Bakers... what a collaboration! With something for everyone, come and give these amazing burgers a try this lunchtime!

We are pleased to open up our Farm tunnels again for picking Strawberries only, our Raspberries are still picked out sorry.

Join us for some fruit picking fun 9am-4pm down on the Farm. There is no need to book simply head to the back of the Farm Shop and follow the signs.

Please head into the Farm Shop to pay your entry fee & weigh and pay once you are done.

All our fruit is grown undercover of tunnels so no matter the weather you can join us and enjoy the outdoors!

Everyone's favourite Summer tea time saying when asked what they want to eat- picky bits!

And we couldn't agree more. When the sun is shining there is really nothing worse than being stood cooking in a hot kitchen. Outside with glass of something ice cold in hand, enjoying dining alfresco is where we should all be...

Now we have to say that our Deli Counter is the place to go for all your picky bits dinner ideas! From fresh coleslaw and potato salad to olives, pasta bowls, freshly baked sausage rolls, scotch eggs, pork pies and everything in between. We have a selection of Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian options to making catering for all your loved ones easy! Just ask our Deli Team at the counter when you visit.

Don't forget to venture to the Bakery ang grab a sourdough... no picky tea is complete without some speciality bread in our opinion!

Our Story

We are a family run farm that has been growing its own produce for over 35 years. We bought a small holding in Great Haywood back in 1983 and planted our first strawberry plants that spring. Since then we have nurtured and supplied summer berries, autumn pumpkins, garden vegetables and plants directly to businesses across the region, and also to the local community through our own Farm Shop – one of Staffordshire’s first!

Over the last few years we have developed our ‘Pick Your Own’ experience, established a Seasonal Plant Centre and built a lovely relaxing Café (2014) overlooking the Trent and Mersey Canal. We have also rebuilt and extended our Farm Shop to include a butchery, bakery, delicatessen, gift section, award-winning wines and local beers. We were honoured to be awarded the national Small Farm Shop of the year in 2020, whilst our Cafe reached the final of the prestigious Farma Retail Association Awards.

We think we have created something special at Canalside Farm, but don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourself!
