The first blossom of Spring. Sometimes the things that cost us nothing can be more precious than anything we can imagine.

Work in progress in dramatic fleeting light today (with a smattering of hail). A happy sign of the Summer to come. 😁

Church from Cage Hill - 90cm x 90cm - oil on canvas - Unchanged for generations, this view of the 12th Century Church of St John the Baptist in Stowe-by-Chartley deliberately echoes the emotional undertones of ‘The Church at Auvers’ in the Musee D’Orsay. I am so grateful to the wonderful Evans family for commissioning this painting.

My heart and soul is in my work and it can be quite moving to observe the impression when a painting is seen for the first time. Although it can be hard to wave goodbye to another little piece of myself, there is much to look forward to that has yet to be seen! 😁

Ingestre Hall - The Ancestral home of the Earls of Shrewsbury since the 17th Century- with thanks to Ed Chetwynd-Talbot for commissioning this painting of his family home which survives as the only children’s residential arts centre in the country, where Julie Walters and Frank Skinner first experienced the arts. The legacy of this magnificent house continues.

Wasn’t it stunning light today? Acrylic paint is a fantastic way to express yourself swiftly in changing light when used thinly with a big brush. I draw much inspiration from studying the subtle changes in light and shadow on the landscape. Being out there is really the only way to do it (even if I do need to order some thermals😂)
