With the UK in the middle of a heatwave, keeping our pets cool is a must! Always make sure they have plenty of fresh, clean water (collapsible bowls are perfect for on-the-go 💧) and only walk them early in the morning or late in the evening.

P.S. How cute is Rory, our vet Anneka's dog. 😍

Heat-Related Illness (HRI), also known as heatstroke, is a serious, life-threatening condition in dogs. With the weather heating up across the UK, it's important more than ever to ensure you know the correct information in regards to dogs potentially suffering from heatstroke and what you must do.

The cooling methods used on dogs at canine sports (Canicross) events were investigated and showed that to keep your dog safe - you must cool first and transport them to the vet second.

We recently welcomed sweet boy Lilo back to our Vets Now Manchester Hospital for a check-up following a bout of lameness in his right forelimb earlier this year.

Sadly, Lilo was diagnosed with a bone infection that had caused his leg to grow abnormally.

Thanks to our incredible team, Lilo is now back on his paws. After treating the infection, they used advanced 3D-printed guides to perform a corrective osteotomy to straighten his leg.

We’re thrilled to report the procedure went well, and his recent check-up showed amazing progress. Lilo is now back to his happy, active self! 🐾❤️

Lovely lady Hallie recently came to see us at our Vets Now Glasgow Hospital from VCA Avondale Veterinary Hospital

Hallie experienced a difficult labour and became anaemic following the C-section for her gorgeous litter. She was referred to us for a blood transfusion, and plenty of TLC ❤️

We're delighted to have received these photos from her owners of both Hallie and her pups now doing well 🥰🐾

As we soak up the remaining weeks of summer, BBQs remain a favourite way to gather with friends and family. While they're a great source of fun, it’s important for pet owners to stay mindful, because BBQs can pose hidden risks for our furry companions.

Here are 5 top tips to help keep your pets safe during BBQ season:

🐾 Keep pets at a distance - It’s best to keep them well away from the grill or, ideally, inside the house. Open flames, hot surfaces, and heat exposure can lead to burns or overheating.

🐾 Store BBQ tools safely - Skewers, matches, lighter fluid, and cleaning products should be kept securely out of reach.

🐾 Provide plenty of fresh water - The heat can quickly dehydrate pets. Always ensure they have access to clean, cool water.

🐾 Skip the BBQ scraps – As tempting as it is, greasy meats and bones can upset your pet’s stomach or cause more serious issues.

🐾 Supervise and offer a retreat – Always keep an eye on your pet, and provide a quiet, shady space where they can relax if things get too lively.

Send this to fellow pet owners so we can all enjoy the last bit of summer safely together 🥰

Brave girl Clio was recently rushed to our Vets Now Manchester Hospital following a scary accident on the train tracks, where she was left with serious injuries to her back leg. 💔

Unfortunately Clio's leg could not be saved and was sadly amputated. Despite such a massive challenge, Clio has been nothing but resilient and has, since, adapted well to life on 3 paws.

Cleo's owner kindly shared some photos with us and said:

"She was so well looked after by Jordan and the rest of the team! We appreciate everything they did for her so much, we are so relieved to still have our girl! Not many people can say that after their cat gets hit by a train!"

We are so proud of you, Clio! 🐱🥰

Now the weather is warmer, many of us are looking to spend more time outdoors; which often means bringing our dogs along for the journey. 🚗

From short trips to the park or a longer escape, it’s important to make sure your dog travels safely and comfortably.

🚨 When traveling in a car with your dog, it is a legal requirement under Rule 57 of the Highway Code to properly restrain them. Just like seatbelts for humans, this rule is designed to protect both your dog and the driver by preventing distractions. Failure to comply can result in a fine of up to £5,000. The Code also advises against allowing dogs to travel in the front passenger seat, especially if the vehicle is equipped with a passenger airbag.

🚨 Important Notice 🚨

We've been facing some challenges with stray dogs being brought to us that were found outside of Sheffield, where our clinic is based. While we're happy to assist with microchip scanning, we kindly ask that stray dogs found in neighbouring areas like Rotherham, Doncaster, Chesterfield or Barnsley, for example, be taken to a local vet in the area where they were found. This ensures that the appropriate dog wardens can assist, as they cannot collect strays from our location.

If contacting our clinic concerning a stray, please let the team know what postcode location the pet has been found so we can ensure they are taken to the correct clinic for help.

Please share to help get stray dogs the proper support and return them home quickly! 🐾❤️
