We will not forget!
As part of Remembrance Day, we show respect and forever thanks for the countless men and women who sacrificed their lives and fought for the freedoms we have today!
Also, let’s remember and show equal respect and forever thanks to the countless dogs and other animals such as horses who also sacrificed their lives during the war. Some of our dogs come from blood lines, which date back to the war! Dogs served crucial roles during the war such as:
Guard dogs who protected posts, supplies and alerted soldiers to enemy movements.
Messenger and communication.. Dogs carried and laid telephone lines.
Scouting and detection.. Dogs led troops through enemy territory, and dogs were used to sniff out and locate mines.
Search and rescue.. Dogs helped locate buried soldiers after bombings and they also helped with other search and rescue operations.
Mascots.. Many units had mascots, which boosted morale and dogs served as companions.
Dogs were also used for specialist roles including anti tank missions, which often involved the dog parachuting in behind enemy lines!
