πΎ LOW-ENERGY GAMES FOR HOT DAYS βοΈπΆ
When itβs far too hot for lots of running and playing outside, our dogs still need mental stimulation! π§ π
Here are some easy games you can play indoors to keep your dog entertained without getting them hot and over-excited:
π Find It!
Hide a few treats around one room and let your dog use their nose to find them. Start easy and gradually make the hiding places trickier.
π₯£Muffin Tin Game
Pop treats into some of the holes of a muffin tin and cover them with tennis balls or toys. Can your dog work out which ones contain the treats?
π¦ Cardboard Box Search
Put some treats or their favourite toy into a cardboard box with scrunched-up paper. Let them sniff and investigate.
ποΈ Hand Targeting
Teach your dog to touch your hand with their nose. It's simple, useful training and can be done in a small space.
π§Έ Toy Choice Game
Put two or three toys down and ask your dog to choose one. Reward them for investigating or picking the toy you name.
πΎ Trick Training
Use the cooler part of the day to teach something new β paw, chin rest, spin, tidy up toys or even a cute new trick!
πβπ¦Ί Snuffle Time
A snuffle mat, scatter feeding or simply hiding their dinner around a safe area can provide fantastic mental enrichment without lots of physical exertion.
π‘ Remember: sniffing, searching and problem-solving can be just as tiring for our dogs as physical exercise β and they're a great way to help keep them content on hot days.
βοΈ Keep sessions short, provide plenty of fresh water and make sure your dog has a cool, comfortable place to rest afterwards.
What is your dog's favourite indoor game?
