All the Andy Burnham, Larry the cat and Axel the dog news has inspired some dog and cat posts 😀

🐶❤️ Bringing a puppy into a home when you have a cat? Set them up for success!
A happy dog-cat relationship doesn't happen by chance—it starts with understanding your cat's needs and preventing problems before they begin.

Here are some essential tips:
🐾 No chasing—ever!
Chasing is incredibly rewarding for dogs and can quickly become a habit. Keep your puppy on a lead during introductions, use baby gates, and always prioritise your cat's ability to feel safe.

🏡 Cats need an escape route.
Never allow your cat to be cornered. They should always have the choice to move away and access safe, dog-free spaces.

🌳 Think vertically.
Cat trees, shelves, and high resting spots allow cats to observe from a safe distance, helping them feel secure and in control.

🍽️ Protect your cat's resources.
Feed your cat where your dog can't reach—on a cat tree or sturdy elevated surface. Dog-proof your cat's litter tray too. Not only is privacy important for your cat, but many dogs find cat food and cat poo irresistible! Consider baby gates or a microchip cat flap to keep the area dog-free.

😺 Learn to recognise signs of stress.
Cats often show subtle signs before problems develop. Watch for:
• Moving away or hiding
• Quick lip licking
• Dilated pupils
• Fur standing on end

If a cat feels unsafe for too long, stress can lead to behaviours such as spraying or toileting outside the litter tray.

💛 Remember: cats experience the world differently.
They rely heavily on scent, value warm resting places, enjoy opportunities to play and mimic hunting, and communicate through rubbing and scratching. The goal isn't simply for your dog and cat to tolerate one another—it's to ensure your cat feels safe, confident, and has control over their environment. Taking the time to get introductions right can help create a peaceful home for everyone
