Our Story:

As a dog lover, I'm sure we share the same concerns... the dreaded day of dealing with aggression from other animals? My beloved former Border Terrier, Murphy, was in quite a pickle during one of our leisurely walks. An aggressive dog ambushed and grabbed him by the throat, pinning him to the ground. It was something straight out of a horror movie! The world went into slow motion! We thought Murphy's life would end that day, and we'd have to live with the memory for the rest of our lives. When coming home, I was told Murphy might die from his wounds. Naturally distraught, I stayed with him on the sofa for 3 days, not leaving his side. That's when the idea for a defence collar came to me quickly. Fast forward a few months, and I'd created a prototype using an electrical fly squat, leather, wire and a 3.7-volt battery! After six months, Murphy recovered. Overjoyed but still filled with dread about our future walks together. He displayed signs of stress, trauma and was anxious outside unless held. Eventually, Murphy found the courage to roam freely, but only while wearing his new basic homemade defence collar. Alas, DogFender was born! 👇

Another fatal dog attack has been reported today.
Not in a park.
Not with a dog off the lead.

This happened on a busy high street — right in front of Christmas shoppers.

I’m sharing this not because the many other incidents reported through the DogFender platform are any less tragic. Every attack matters. Every victim matters.

But on 25/11/2025, Lambert — a young toy poodle who had barely begun his life — was killed by an XL Bully. Lambert’s owner contacted me through our DogFender incident platform, left traumatised, heartbroken, and searching for justice. I will gather all relevant information regarding what happens next with the attacking dog and will share it.

This is not an isolated case. It’s a pattern — and it’s getting worse. Not just in the UK or the USA, but globally.

Despite having support from government officials and the public,
DEFRA will not listen. They have now started ignoring my emails.

DEFRA — your legislation is outdated and no longer fit for purpose. Our correspondence makes it clear that a full reassessment is urgently needed. While you claim “everything possible is being done,” the reality is simple: it isn’t enough. The public, and our much-loved pets, are paying with their lives. For transparency and public safety, I will soon publish our email exchange.

To the COO of the CPI — who has also begun ignoring my emails, sent via government officials, I might add — this demonstrates a worrying lack of urgency for public safety and current dog law. For transparency and public safety, I will also publish that email exchange.

The question that now needs answering is painfully simple:

How many more?
How many more pets killed?
How many more human lives lost?
How many more families shattered?

How many more have to suffer before meaningful change happens?

DogFender exists because the current system is failing. We will continue collecting reports, amplifying victims’ voices, and fighting relentlessly for modern, effective legislation that truly protects the public and their loved ones.

Have you heard about "Emilies Law"?

Southend West MP Anna Firth has introduced a new "Emilie's Law". This new law seeks justice for fatal dog-on-dog attacks after the tragic death of a much-loved bichon frise.

It's shocking to see how dog attacks have risen by 700% in 5 years between 2016 to 2021, and we agree that it's beyond time for change.

"What can be done to address the growing frequency of such assaults? Unfortunately, in cases like Michael's, where he was not in fear for his safety, and Emilie was not a service or assistance dog, then the attacking dog cannot be classified as "dangerous" under the law." - Express-News

This bill aims to hold irresponsible dog owners accountable for their pet's actions, making fatal dog attacks a criminal offence.

It's an important and positive step in the right direction that may just provide justice for the many victims out there of canine aggression that has devastated their owners who are left to suffer these preventable tragedies.

We've been in active communication with our local MP, Oliver Dowden, and we're delighted to share that he has taken the time to consider our request to address the broader terminology around E-Collars.

You see, for many, seeing broad statements about "E-Collars" online can mislead as to the main function of what Dogfender does, which is to safeguard your dogs with convenience.

In a world where canine aggression is on the rise, it's crucial to understand that some may lead you to believe that with the right training, you are invincible from such encounters.

It's important to remember that dogs, being animals, can be unpredictable by nature. Aggression isn't always obvious or what you might expect. The truth is that these dog-on-dog incidents are becoming increasingly unpredictable and dangerous.

So, the question is—wouldn't it be better to use a small, humane stimulus to deter an attacking dog and potentially save both dogs from harm rather than risk further injuries to pets and their owners?

For months, we've been working to push for clarity on the use of E-Collars, highlighting the key differences between collars used for training and those designed to protect.

It's great to see Southend MP Anna Firth taking action on this serious issue with the introduction of "Emilie's Law" following the devastating death of a bichon frise in Leigh.

"In the five years between 2016 and 2021, there was a 700 per cent increase in dog-on-dog attacks, rising to 11,559 from just 1,700." - Mr Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford.

It's clear that dog aggression is a growing problem that needs attention. Currently, dog owners are not liable for fatal attacks unless a service dog or human is involved, but this bill could change that.
