๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›๏ธ Meet the lovely Jasper who was in with us yesterday for microchipping and routine neutering.

As responsible pet owners, these are two important steps you can take to help keep your cat safe, healthy, and happy.

โœ… Microchipping: A microchip provides permanent identification for your cat and greatly increases the chances of being reunited if they ever go missing. It's quick, safe, and now a legal requirement for cats in England.

โœ… Neutering: Neutering helps prevent unwanted litters and can reduce behaviours such as roaming, fighting, spraying, and the risk of certain diseases. Most cats can be neutered from around 4 months of age.

By choosing to microchip and neuter your cat, you're helping them live a healthier life while supporting responsible pet ownership in our community.

If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, our friendly team is here to help. ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Information on Ticks ๐Ÿพ

With Cornwall's beautiful countryside, woodlands and coastal paths becoming busier as the weather warms up, it's also peak season for ticks.

Ticks may be small, but they can cause irritation, infection and, in some cases, transmit diseases such as Lyme disease.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Help protect your pets by:
โœ”๏ธ Checking them for ticks after walks, especially around the ears, neck, armpits and between the toes.
โœ”๏ธ Using a vet-recommended flea and tick prevention product.
โœ”๏ธ Removing any ticks promptly with a suitable tick removal tool - not tweezers!

โš ๏ธ Contact us if you notice: โ€ข Redness or swelling around a tick bite โ€ข Lethargy or unusual behaviour โ€ข Loss of appetite โ€ข Any concerns after removing a tick

Not sure whether your pet's parasite protection is up to date? Our team at RVS would be happy to help.

๐Ÿ“ž Give us a call for advice or to discuss the best tick prevention options for your pet.

Microchipping your cat isn't just important - it's the law in England! ๐Ÿฑ

It's one of the best ways to help you reunite with your feline friend if they become lost or are stolen. A microchip provides your cat with a permanent form of identification that can be scanned by vets, rescue centres, and local authorities.

If you move house or change your phone number, don't forget to update your details with the microchip database you're registered with.

๐Ÿชบ Found a fledgling bird? Here's what to do! ๐Ÿฆ

At RVS we often get questions about what to do if you find a young bird that seems to be alone. Hereโ€™s a quick guide to help you decide the best course of action:

1. Observe from a distance: Sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing at all. The parents may be nearby, watching over their chick. Give them some space and wait to see if they return.
2. Check for danger: If the chick is in immediate danger (like in the middle of a road), you may need to move it to a safer location nearby, such as under a bush or on a tree branch.
3. Assess the situation: If the chick is injured, appears weak, or is in a dangerous location and the parents are nowhere in sight, it may need help.
4. Do not feed or give water: Wild birds have very specific dietary needs, and feeding them incorrectly can do more harm than good.
5. Contact a wildlife rehabilitator or vet: If you're unsure, it's best to get professional help. We at RVS are here to assist you, or we can direct you to local wildlife rehabilitators.

Remember, young birds often leave the nest before they are fully ready, so seeing a chick on the ground is not always a cause for concern.

However, if you are worried, don't hesitate to reach out.
Your actions can make a big difference in the life of a young bird! ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ

Did you know that young children are more likely to be bitten by a dog than any other population group? ๐Ÿ•

Children communicate very differently from adults, and dogs can find it hard to understand them. They can be unsure how to make it known when they want to be left alone.

So, itโ€™s important to teach children how to interact safely with dogs.

Iโ€™m Mathieu Vereecke, a veterinary surgeon qualified in 2004. I am originally from
Belgium but shortly after graduating, I moved to Cornwall.

Having grown up in Belgium and with family still based there, I used to regularly travel abroad with my own dog. At the time, the process was straightforward thanks to the EU pet passport scheme, making cross-border travel simple and stress-free.

Since then, the rules around pet travel have become significantly more complex and, for many pet owners, confusing, expensive and time-consuming. Having experienced both sides of this change, I understand first-hand the challenges that come with organising travel for your pet.

Thatโ€™s why I founded CertiPaws โ€” a Cornwall based, specialised export certification service dedicated to pet travel. Our focus is to provide a seamless, convenient, and cost-effective way to travel abroad with your pet, with complete confidence that every detail is handled correctly.
Because every pet deserves a holiday.

Centrally located in Cornwall, UK, we specialise in providing Animal Health Certificates and export documents for pet travel abroad. We ensure all paperwork meets current UK and international requirements, making the process simple and stress-free for pet owners.

We also offer a convenient mobile service, allowing us to come directly to you. Our pricing is transparent and includes full document preparation, a clinical examination, AHC issuance, basic travel advice, a pre-travel documentation check, and WhatsApp support. Urgent and weekend appointments are available for an additional fee.

We offer excellent value for money and pride ourselves on clear communication, with support available in French, English, Dutch, and Spanish when liaising with veterinarians overseas. Our goal is to make travelling with your pet smooth, compliant, and worry-free.
