Unlike us, pets donβt understand the dangers of hot weather β they rely on us to keep them safe. We control their environment, water, and exerciseβ¦ and sadly, heat stroke can develop quickly and is often fatal, even with veterinary treatment.
π°Keeping Your Rabbit Cool:
π³ Move hutches into the shade or indoors
π¦ Freeze water bottles and wrap them in towels for rabbits to lean against
π Ensure good ventilation and avoid direct sun exposure
π± Helping Your Cat Beat the Heat:
π Keep them indoors during the hottest part of the day
π¦ Place multiple water bowls around the home
π§ Offer ice cubes in their water or as toys to bat around
π§ Top Tips to Keep Your Dog Cool:
π Walk early in the morning or late in the evening
π¦ Provide constant access to fresh, cool water
π Avoid hot pavements β if itβs too hot for your hand, itβs too hot for their paws
π‘ Ensure shady rest areas and never leave them in a car
π₯ Remember: If your pet shows signs of heat stroke excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, confusion, or collapse treat it as an emergency. Call your vet immediately.
