✨🐾 Poodles and doodles grooming checklist 🐾✨
Dog breeds with a curly or wool type coat (poodles, labradoodles, cavapoos, cockapoos, maltipoos etc.) should be groomed on a strict 4-6 weekly basis.
These breeds should be brushed at home every 2-3 days minimum and checked after every walk to ensure they haven’t picked up anything in their coat that could lead to matting.
If you don’t want your dog to have a full groom every 4 weeks, we can book them in for wash, dry and tidy appointments in between full grooms.
Here is my checklist and top tips for grooming at home in between professional grooms:
What will you need:
- Natural shampoo
- Detangling/conditioning spray
- Slicker brush
- Metal comb
- Hairdryer or blast dryer
- Lots of patience!
Brushing:
Brush every day, if not every other day using a conditioning and detangling spray. Always use your slicker brush followed by a metal comb, concentrating on areas such as armpits, legs and feet, bottom and behind the back of the ears.
Washing:
Wash your dogs coat at home once a week using a high quality, natural and cruelty free shampoo. I recommend Rhubarb and Black Plum conditioning shampoo.
Drying:
Pat dry the coat and do not rub as this can cause matting. Once you’ve soaked up as much excess moisture as possible, spray all over with a detangling spray and use a hair dryer and a slicker brush, brushing as you dry to prevent matting and keeping your dogs coat in tip top condition!
