A little while ago we had a visit from Berty's mum as he had become really itchy and lost all his fur 😔

We had a good long chat about his diet, adventures and what the vets have said (they were stumped).

So we suggested trying a raw alongside a supplement from Diet'Dog UK.

His mum has since been feeding Albion Pet Foods Buddy's Choice range alongside Itchy Skin Complex and just look at him! 🥹 His fur is growing back!

Does your dog struggle with allergies or skin issues?

I stock ONE Omega Oil and here's why.

There's a huge variety of Omega oils out there for dogs and most don't actually do what you think they do.

The short version Omega-3 is 3 different things wearing one name. EPA & DHA are the ones you want. These actually support skin, coat, joints. ALA - The plant based one in flaxseed, h**p and chia oil has to be converted first and dogs are pretty rubbish at that!

Which is why one of the cheapest things in the shop is actually one of the best: Whole Oily Fish, once or twice a week.

Swipe for the full breakdown, including the bit nobody checks - these oils go rancid quickly, and a rancid oil is worse than none at all.

Got a bottle in the cupboard you aren't sure about? Send me a pic of the label and I'll give you the honest verdict.

"Should I be giving my dog an oil?"

I get asked this most weeks, and the honest answer - maybe - but probably not the one thats sitting in your cupboard.

You know the one. Half used, bought on a reccomendation, used religiously for about a fortnight and been sat there ever since. If that sounds at all like you , you aren't alone! The omega shelf can be very confusing!

So heres the bit no-one actually explains properly.

When people say "omega-3", there are actually several different things hiding under that umbrella and they arent interchangeable. The ones that do the work are EPA and DHA.

EPA is the one linked to calming imflammation, think itchy skin and stiff joints.
DHA is the structural one, for brain and eye development so most important for pups and senior dogs.

Flaxseed, h**p and chia contain a different Omega 3 called ALA, and this needs converting into EPA and DHA, however dogs arent very good at doing that. So much so that veterinary nutritionists set separate requirements for EPA and DHA rather that relying on the conversion. It's a bit like handed some a bag of flour and expecting a loaf of bread!

And Coconut Oil, which also gets recommended for itchy skin contains virtually no omega 3 whatsoever!

So what does work? Whole oily fish a couple of times a week. honestly for ost dogs that it - and its one of the cheapest things I sell!

One thing worth knowing though, is to go for the SMALL oily fish and rotate the variety! Sprats, sardines, mackerel. Heavy metals build up in a fish over it's lifetime. so a small sprat carries far less than Salmon.

The bit that nobody checks - fish oils go rancid quickly, and a rancid oil is far worse than none at all. Buy a bottle you will finish in a month or so rather than one to last you until Christmas, and keep it in the fridge.

I've written a whole blog delving into the subject of Omegas, what products I recommend and which I don't, alongside how much they need and more. The link is int the comments. 👇

And if you aren't sure - Just ask me, tell me your dogs weight, their diet and i will honestly tell you whether they need an oil or if you can save your money and buy that extra coffee each week or get them some extra treats! 😜

You guy's really didnt disapoint with the destruction times the other day!
- An entire Ostrich bone in 15 mins! 😲

So heres my honest guide to some of our more heavy duty chews, including the ones i will never stock and why.

The rule i keep coming back to - "if it's harder than a tooth, the tooth is what breaks". Antlers and marrow bones are the typical culprits, and i've seen way too many dogs with slab fractures to have them in the shop.

Big restock has landed this week including Buffalo Plates, which are the ones i reach for when someone tells me their fog gets through everything!

Tell me your dogs breed and their worst destruction record and I'll tell you what i would reccomend!

So excited for this! 😍🙌

Serious Question for the power chewer owners 👀

What is the fastest your dog has destroyed a chew? I want actual times. Minutes. Seconds.

I've had customers tell me things that have genuinely shocked me!

I'm asking as we've had a couple of treat deliveries land this week and I've restocked some of our seriously heavy-duty treats - and I'd rather stock what actually keeps your dog out of mischief and gives you gives some peace and quiet instead of what looks good! 😅

Go on - Shock Me!
