Wednesday 🫐💙♥️🐾🐶

Today’s enrichment was definitely wild blackberries! 🤣 Who knew they could be so much fun?!
Anyone who knows us knows we’re all about natural enrichment here at Carnaquidden.
Dogs love exploring, sniffing and experiencing all those wonderful natural smells on their walks. 🌿🐾
We’re not really ones for artificial enrichment, but it's something we have to do. We much prefer letting the dogs enjoy what nature provides!
And wow… the blackberries have been a huge hit today! 🫐🤣 (In moderation, of course!) ❤️🐾

🐾 A Gentle Reminder About Bi***es in Season 🐾

After having to deal with two unexpected seasons this week, I thought it would be a good time for a gentle reminder.

At Carnaquidden Dog Boarding, we are happy to welcome unspayed bi***es. However, we are unable to accommodate dogs that are in season or showing signs that they may be about to come into season.
This is because we have resident entire male dogs, and our priority is always the safety, welfare and wellbeing of every dog in our care.
If you think your dog may be due a season before their stay, or you notice any of the signs below, please let us know as soon as possible. We'd always rather have a conversation beforehand and help you make a plan than have your holiday disrupted unexpectedly.

Signs your dog may be coming into season:
🐾 A swollen v***a
🐾 Blood spotting or discharge
🐾 Increased licking of the area
🐾 Male dogs showing unusual interest
🐾 Changes in behaviour, such as becoming clingier, more restless or more affectionate

If a bitch unexpectedly comes into season whilst staying with us, we will always do everything we can to keep her safe and comfortable while we contact your emergency contact to arrange collection. Our priority is to make sure she is well cared for while alternative arrangements are made.

Having to ask owners to collect their dog, or having to turn a dog away on arrival, is something I find incredibly difficult. This week, one of our boarding dogs came into season during her stay, and another arrived already showing signs of being in season.
I know how upsetting and disappointing this can be for families, especially when holidays have been planned, and it never gets any easier having those conversations 😔💔

🐶Did You Know?
🐾 A bitch in season can attract entire male dogs from a considerable distance away. Their incredible sense of smell allows them to detect her scent long before they can see her.
🐾 Being close to a bitch in season can be extremely stressful for entire male dogs. They may become anxious, restless, stop eating, whine, bark, pace or even try to escape to reach her.
🐾 The scent of a bitch in season can also affect the behaviour of other dogs staying with us, making it much harder to keep everyone calm, settled and relaxed.
🐾 Our policy isn't simply about preventing unwanted matings, it's about protecting the health, welfare and happiness of every dog in our care.

❤️ Thank you for your understanding❤️
