We are very lucky to have a set of veterinary stocks set up at the yard for any veterinary procedures or examinations needed.
Libor lad had a muscle biopsy completed this week so the stocks were extremely useful from start to finish ensuring the veterinary team - Lewis and George could get everything done in a safe and clean environment.

🤩New Clinic - Working Equitation 🐎
Open to all including external clients.

♦️Thursday 21st May♦️

Working Equitation is an exciting 3 or 4 phase discipline, based around skills necessary to navigate through various tasks that might be encountered during ranch work. Beginning with a dressage test, we then have two "obstacle rounds" - Ease of Handling (style), and the Speed round. Occasionally competitions also feature a 4th team phase, cattle penning! Competitive levels range from junior & walk & trot, to Advanced - akin to PSG dressage but ridden one handed.

Sessions will be focused around the obstacles, which include bridges, gates, the bull (don't worry, he isn't real!), and many more.
These obstacles serve as an excellent way to test and develop your riding skills, improve your horses' confidence, suppleness, balance & more.
These clinics are suitable for all levels of partnership, from horses doing groundwork, children on ponies, right up to advanced combinations and those looking to improve their competition riding.

Trainer Rebekah Adshead is a BWE approved level 2 instructor, trainee judge & competitor who has also produced horses to adv med BD, evented & team chased, as well as producing & bringing on young horses.

Did you know the impact of obesity on your horse stretches far beyond the increased risk of laminitis?

We’ve all heard someone say “careful – he’ll come down with laminitis” with reference to an overweight or native pony or horse. But increased laminitis risk is only one of many negative impacts excess weight can have on your horse’s health.

🐎 Excess strain on joints may reduce soundness for working horses.
🔋Reduced energy levels go hand in hand with obesity - many overweight horses tire more quickly from carrying around their heavier load. We’ve probably all experienced the fat lazy pony who makes the rider work harder than they do.
🫁 We assess body fat by the external fat we can see and feel. However, internal fat places more strain on the internal organs, with reduced respiratory capacity a common sign.
🥵 Heat stress or intolerance is another factor which negatively impacts energy, performance and a willingness to work. Overheating and excessive sweating can lead to dehydration.
⚠️Obese horses are at increased risk of insulin dysregulation and may have reduced fertility, suffer from greater decreases in age-related immune function and may also be at higher risk of some types of colic. The list goes on….

Spring grass can be very high in calories which many horses or ponies simply don’t need. In the wild, horses and ponies live off very sparse rations through winter and often reach spring in poor condition. The abundance of food nature then provides as the weather warms up is desperately needed by many wild animals and they bounce back through the summer months.

As owners, understandably we don’t want our much-loved horses to look thin at the end of winter, which means they often have no need for mother nature’s provision of gluttonous grasses. Therefore, it’s vital we manage our horses’ body condition before they bulge out of control!

Weigh day for the yard.
3 horses getting that perfect 5 for BCS too 🙌
A few changes to diet plans either for increasing condition or weight loss but all in all maintaining well 🥰
