🐾Found a tick on your pet?

Using a tick remover tool is a safe and effective way to remove it by following these steps:
1️⃣ Choose the correct size tick remover for the tick attached to your
pet.
2️⃣ Carefully slide the remover under the tick, as close to the skin as
possible.
3️⃣ Swiftly swivel the remover clockwise until the tick detaches.

Once removed, dispose of the tick safely and check the area to make sure no parts have been left behind.

Remember to choose options specifically made for dogs to help keep tails wagging and tummies happy 💙

Some human ice creams can contain ingredients that may be harmful to pets, including:
⚠ Chocolate
⚠ Xylitol (artificial sweetener)
⚠ Certain nuts and toppings
⚠ Too much dairy

Instead, try safer frozen treats like: Frozen carrots 🥕Frozen banana 🍌Blueberries 🫐Dog-friendly ice cream treats 🐶

Decision: Safety first.

With the weekend, and the World Cup Final, approaching - there's definitely a few BBQ plans in the making!

If you’re hosting a BBQ, remember:
🔥Keep pets well away from hot BBQs to prevent burns
🔥Never leave BBQs unattended while lit
🔥Avoid feeding fatty scraps – these can cause stomach upset or pancreatitis
🔥Keep bones, skewers and corn cobs out of reach – they can cause choking or blockages
🔥Make sure all food and rubbish is securely cleared away

Keeping hazards out of reach helps keep your pet out of trouble!

Massive congratulations to our very own Rachael Meehan who has graduated from UCD this summer with flying colours 🎓🎉

Rachael's exceptional achievements were recognised with no less than five awards:
🎓The Veterinary Ireland Student Medal: awarded to the leading student throughout the Veterinary Medicine Programme.

🎓The Interchem (Ireland) Ltd Prize for Veterinary Medicine: awarded to the student who achieves the highest grade in Small Animal Medicine.

🎓The John Freeman Memorial Medal: awarded by the Veterinary Council of Ireland to the student to acquires the highest aggregate grades in: Animal Husbandry and Production, Pathologly, Microbiology, Parasitology and Pharmacology.

🎓The John Hannon Medal: awarded to the student who obtains the highest overall grades in Veterinary Public Health and Food Hygiene.

🎓The Moredun Foundation Prize: awarded to the student who performs best in the area of Farm Animal Clinical Studies.

What an amazing achievement and all of us at Newry Veterinary Centre know that this recognition is well-deserved!

Rachael has worked as a Part-Time Receptionist at NVC throughout her degree and now we'll all be so excited to see her kick off her career as a Vet!!
