Have you heard of the term antibiotic resistance? This means that the more we use antibiotics, the more resistant the bacteria become and, therefore, the less effective these are. This is why it’s so important to use this type of medication responsibly. Here are 5 things you need to know:

1) Antibiotics are only effective to treat bacterial infections, and not viral ones.

2) You should only use them on your pets if prescribed by a vet.

3) It’s really important to follow the vet’s instructions on how to administer them, for instance, every 24 hours or every 12 hours.

4) If you’re told by your vet to give them for 7 days, you need to follow this to the letter, even if your pet seems a lot better on day 4.

5) They can have side effects, such as gastrointestinal problems, but you can always get in touch with us if your pet has an adverse reaction to them!

As the weather gets colder, cats often try to find dry, sheltered hiding spots. For this reason, it is very common for cats to crawl into car engines and wheel wells, and they can easily get injured if they're still in there when the car is started!

Please remember to:

🐈 Bang loudly on the bonnet and honk the horn

🐈 Take a quick look under the car and check over the tyres

🐈 If you start your car and hear any unusual noise, immediately turn it off!

These simple steps will give cats a chance to escape and avoid unnecessary accidents!

High-rise syndrome is a term often used to describe the injuries sustained by cats falling from buildings higher than two storeys (7–9 metres). 🏢

Cats have a natural inclination to perch on high places and enjoy spending time watching the outside world from windows or balconies.

Even though it’s often said that our feline friends have nine lives and always land elegantly on their feet, high-rise falls commonly result in severe injuries that need emergency treatment, such as broken bones, facial and chest trauma, and internal bleeding. Too often, these injuries can be fatal if not treated right away! 🚑

Although brachycephalic pets are very popular (and very cute!), they often suffer from respiratory issues due to their small nostrils, short noses, and narrow airways.

Even though some degree of these problems will likely always be present, there are things we can do to help, which usually involve surgical intervention. There are a number of conditions under the umbrella of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, such as narrow nostrils and elongated soft palate, so our recommendations will depend on your pet's specific problem(s).
