Tropical Marine Centre sent us three of the most adorable little angry looking fish 🥺🫶
These guys are such a captivating little creatures.
With it’s lumpy, textured body and incredible camouflage, the Warty Frogfish looks more like a sponge or bit of reef than an actual fish - which is exactly the point! It’s a master of disguise and a patient ambush predator 🦐 🌱 👀 🌱
Using a clever lure (called an esca) just above its mouth, it wiggles what looks like a tasty worm to tempt prey within striking distance. And then SNAP! It strikes in milliseconds. You’ll miss it if you blink!
These fish are slow movers, often “walking” across the substrate on their pectoral fins, and they’re full of quirky personality. They’re best kept in a species-only tank or with very carefully chosen tankmates. Anything small enough to be swallowed probably will be.
