🌞🐾 HOT WEATHER WARNING FOR DOG OWNERS 🐾🌞
As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that our dogs can suffer from heat-related illnesses much faster than we can.
🚫 Please avoid walking your dog during the hottest parts of the day. Pavements can become dangerously hot and may burn your dog’s paw pads, while excessive exercise in warm weather can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
⚠️ Signs of heatstroke in dogs:• Excessive panting• Difficulty breathing• Excessive drooling• Bright red gums or tongue• Lethargy or weakness• Vomiting or diarrhoea• Staggering or collapse• Seizures in severe cases
❄️ What to do if you think your dog has heatstroke:• Move them immediately to a cool, shaded area.• Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water.• Pour cool water over their body, especially their tummy, paws, and neck.• Use a fan if available.• Contact your vet straight away, even if your dog appears to improve.
💡 Ways to keep your dog cool:• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.• Provide plenty of fresh water.• Use cooling mats or damp towels.• Offer frozen treats suitable for dogs.• Keep them in shaded or air-conditioned areas where possible.
Your dog’s safety always comes first. If it’s too hot for you, it’s probably too hot for them too. Stay safe and keep those tails wagging! ❤️🐶
