☀️ Keeping Our Pups Cool in Lytham St Annes! 🐾
With the warmer weather heading our way, we want to make sure all our wonderful The Pleasant Groom Lytham furry clients stay safe, comfortable, and healthy.
Did you know that temperatures as low as 20°C can pose a risk to dogs? Flat-faced breeds (like pugs and frenchies), puppies, seniors, and our extra-fluffy friends are even more vulnerable to the heat.
To help you navigate the summer months, we’ve put together a quick safety checklist for your next stroll down the promenade or trip to Lowther Gardens:
⏱️ The 5-Second Tarmac Test
Before heading out, place the back of your hand firmly on the pavement for 5 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it is way too hot for your dog’s sensitive paws! Stick to the grass or wait for the temperature to drop.
🌅 Walk Smart
Time your walks for the early morning or late evening when the air and ground have cooled down. Avoid the midday sun entirely.
💧 Hydration & Shade
Always carry a portable water bottle and a collapsible bowl. If you're out and about, look for shaded spots to rest.
🚫 Never Leave Dogs in Cars
Not even for a "quick two minutes," and not even with the windows cracked. Temperatures inside a car can skyrocket to dangerous levels in moments.
⚠️ Know the Signs of Heatstroke:
Heavy panting, excessive drooling, lethargy, confusion, or bright red gums. If you suspect heatstroke, move your dog to a cool area, offer small sips of water, use cool (not freezing) water on their body, and contact your vet immediately.
Let's keep those tails wagging safely all summer long! Feel free to save this post or share it with your fellow local dog owners. 🐶❤️
