At Wolfe Vets, we offer laparoscopic spaying (keyhole surgery), which is a technique not offered by all vets, as it requires specialist equipment and training. But we think your pets deserve the best!

Compared with traditional spaying, laparoscopic procedures can offer:

🐾 Smaller surgical incisions
🐾 Reduced post-operative pain
🐾 Less tissue trauma and internal handling
🐾 Lower risk of wound complications
🐾 Faster recovery and return to normal activity

It is designed to reduce the impact on your pet’s body, improving their well-being.

If you’d like to learn more about laparoscopic spaying and whether it’s suitable for your dog, our team is always happy to help.

Visit: https://wolfevets.co.uk/neutering/ to find out more!

Please remember, while laparoscopic spaying offers numerous benefits, it’s essential to consider your dog’s individual circumstances. This procedure may not be suitable for certain patients. Consult with our vets to determine the best course of action for your beloved companion.

🦠With the change in seasons, environmental allergens are on the rise. They can have a big impact on your pet’s skin 🦠

Pollen, grasses, dust mites, and mould spores can all trigger allergic reactions in dogs and cats. Instead of sneezing as we do, pets often show allergies through their skin. This can lead to itching, redness, hair loss, and even secondary infections.

You might notice your pet scratching more than usual, chewing paws, shaking their head, rubbing against furniture, or developing sore patches (hair loss, redness, or inflammation). These can all be signs that something in their environment is causing irritation.

Managing skin allergies early can help prevent them from becoming more serious, preventing infections and keep your pet comfortable as the seasons change.

If you’re noticing changes in your pet’s skin or behaviour, we are here to help.

Poor Skipper broke both of his front legs at New Year when he was only 6 months old 💔

This is a tricky problem, sadly not uncommon in toy dogs. Because it puts the metal implants under a lot of strain while the bone heals, this lead to one of his plates snapping before the bone healed. Skipper needed a second surgery to apply a new plate, one that could not be used when he was under 3kg.

Our nurse physiotherapist used laser therapy to help his bone heal as fast as possible. He is a real character and we are delighted that he is back to his bouncy old self ❤️ A happy ending for Skipper 🐶

If your pets are spending more time outdoors and exercising, you may start to notice signs of underlying orthopaedic issues, especially in older pets or those with pre-existing conditions.

🐶In dogs, watch out for:

⚠️Limping or stiffness (especially after rest)
⚠️Slowing down on walks or reluctance to run/jump
⚠️Difficulty getting up, climbing stairs, or getting into the car
⚠️Changes in behaviour, such as irritability or reduced enthusiasm

😸In cats, signs can be more subtle:

⚠️Jumping less or hesitating before jumping
⚠️Sleeping more or becoming less active
⚠️Difficulty grooming (leading to a scruffy coat)
⚠️Changes in litter tray habits

These signs can indicate joint pain, arthritis, or other orthopaedic concerns. Early intervention can make a big difference in keeping your pet comfortable and mobile.

If you notice any of these changes, or if something just doesn’t seem quite right, it’s always best to get your pet checked sooner rather than later.

🐈It’s World Hypertension Day! Did you know cats can suffer from high blood pressure, too?

Just like in people, hypertension can quietly damage vital organs without obvious symptoms. That’s why regular health checks are so important - especially for our older feline friends.

✨The good news?

Blood pressure checks are quick, painless and stress-free. If hypertension is detected early, medication and management can make a huge difference to your cat’s quality of life.
We particularly recommend routine blood pressure checks for cats over 7 years old, or those with kidney or thyroid disease.

If you’re unsure whether your cat has ever had their blood pressure checked, get in touch with our team - we’re always here to help!

Spring is in full swing… and so are the slugs and snails! 🐌

As the weather warms up, we start to see more cases of lungworm in dogs. Lungworm is spread by slugs and snails, and dogs can pick it up by eating them (yes, it happens!), drinking from outdoor water bowls or puddles, or even licking grass and toys where slugs have crawled.

Early signs can be subtle:
🚨 Coughing
🚨 Lethargy
🚨 Reduced appetite
🚨 Breathing changes
🚨 Unexplained bruising or bleeding

Lungworm can be very serious if left untreated - but the good news is that it’s preventable with the right parasite protection.
If you're unsure whether your dog is covered, give us a call, and we’ll be happy to advise.

Meet beautiful Bella, who is celebrating her 20th birthday next week! 💕🎉

Her owners found blood in her wee, so we performed urine tests & an ultrasound scan, which found crystals scratching her bladder walls.

Bella was given pain relief and started on a special food to dissolve the crystals and make her feel more comfortable. And yes, it's impossible not to fall in love with this adorable girl!

We're sure you'll join us in sending lots of birthday wishes Bella's way, and hope that she feels far more comfortable by the time the celebrations roll around 🥰
