☀️ Advice for pets in hot weather ☀️

🐾 Ensure your pet has access to plenty of water throughout the day and night

🐾Provide plenty of shade for them to sit in, and/or a well ventilated area. If it is safe to do, use a room fan to cool them, or provide a wet towel for them to sit/lie on. Cooling mats are very effective, or a wet bandana around the neck. Keep curtains and blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day and open windows when the temperature has cooled

🐾It is best to walk dogs very early in the morning or late in the evenings on extremely hot days, especially as pavements can get very hot and burn their pads.
They really do not need to be exercised in the same way during a heatwave, as this can easily lead to heatstroke which is more common in certain breeds

🐾Sun cream is advised to be used on ears and noses if they are exposed to the sun a lot, especially on white/pale cats and dogs. A high factor sun cream is recommended

❗️DO NOT leave dogs in cars, even for a short while

🐾For smaller pets living outside, make sure there is plenty of shade for them to shelter and where possible move them to cool areas indoors

🌡️Watch for signs of heat stroke
Excessive panting, drooling, hot to touch, rapid pulse, very red gums, vomiting and weakness. This is an emergency so contact a vet immediately.

🎡 Important Update for Kew Fete Dog Show 🎡

Unfortunately due to the extremely hot temperatures we are currently experiencing, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the much loved dog show at Kew Fete on Saturday.

Whilst we know everyone enjoys the fun afternoon entertainment of very proud owners showing their dogs in various categories, we feel we have to put the interests of the dogs above anything else, and it would be irresponsible to encourage people to bring dogs out on such a hot day.

We will be sorry not to see familiar, and new, furry faces, but we would still love to see you at the fete without your dogs, if you can brave the sweltering temperatures.

Kew Fete 2025 will be held on Saturday 21st June between 11am and 6pm and is held on the eastern part of Kew Green, Kew, Surrey, TW9 3AP.
