Well here I am again to tell you the new story about our Greg. The new member of the pack which included, Pinky, Mischief and Mayhem and now Greg. Things seemed to be going well with Greg settling in his new home. No fights, ! just f***y cough boxing from the two nutcase boys as per. It all changed yesterday when I found Mischief and Mayhem giving chase to Greg, only a little at first but then things Intensively got worse. Poor Greg was now running like crazy, very frightened and looking for some great escape which turned out to be me. With one big jump from the cage onto my chest and just stayed there with my hands holding him safe. Poor love was was shaking . I spoke to him gently telling him he was safe now and I wouldn't let those bullies pick on him again. For some reason I felt this upset was a bit heated with the other two. So when Greg had settled a little I decided to double check his bits. Hmmm NO GAP, NO BOY..... yes Greg was a young lady. I begged her forgiveness for putting her in with the boys . What a horrible mummy I was, but now she was safe in my hands ready to move in with her new girl friends. I gently put her in the cage and she ran and hid. The girls just left her alone then one at a time went to see who had joined them. They just sniffed her and walked off leaving her to find her own way when she was ready. I knew she was safe with the girls so didn't worry about leaving her over night.
When I went to check on her the next morning there she was snuggled with two of the girls on the shelf. After awhile she went for a run on the wheel all calm and happy. I did message her first mummy that informed me that they had her from a baby. 4plus years and her friend was definitely a boy. She hadn't seen them trying to mate and she never knew that Greg was a girl until I told her today. So now after spending 5 days with boys I am on pregnancy watch just incase.

I'm happy to say that Greg is slowly is getting more happy to find my hand in the cage offering Sunflower Hearts out. Not quite ready to trust me yet but the cuddle time is on count down. I can't wait to give him kisses and Cuddles. My lips are puckered ready and waiting.

It nice to see Greg and his new friends snuggling together after only a few days of meeting each other.
Greg was very nervous of me and would run and hide but he is more socialable today while cleaning them out. He took a lot of interest of what I was doing to his new home. LOL.

Today has been a very heart breaking day . My lovely friendly and lovable little girl Bubble has crossed the bridge in her sleep. She was fine last evening and we had a lovely cuddle and kisses together and she was not showing any signs of been unwell. But this morning I found her curled up snuggled in the bed. She passed gently in her sleep with all her sisters around her.
I will miss you Bubble. You were a wonderful little girl and the short time we had together was very special.###X

Well my new boy Greg has had a wonderful afternoon checking his new home out. He has become the first high jump degu and had an explore around the room. He investigated under my sink, which was very boring so didnt stay there long. (unknown to mum who thought he was hidding there). Behind the unit in the corner which was even more boring and then he decided he would investigate the noise coming from another cage. He snook underneath it and had a good look around. There's was some hay on the floor unlike he had smelt before. He had a little taste but it was stale and didn't taste very good. Neither did the small black pellets he found. After few thought for a moment then he relized they were not treats but the same things that came out his butt from time to time. Not the liquid stuff but the hard oblong things that he always set free when he had eaten, p**p. He could hear squeaking from above him but could not find away to get closer so he could listen better. He decided to have a little rest while his new mum was busy pulling all the stuff out from under the sink. He chuckled to himself as he heard things been dragged out and checked in hope of finding him. He was safe for now because mum didn't know where he was but when she decovered he wasn't there under the sink unit she would look further. He ofcourse was determined not to get caught so kept a lookout for any movement coming his way. After a quick nap he decided to investigate further and climb over some things on a raised ledge, not very interesting but new smells that he hadn't come across before. Then he found holes in between some solid hard things. No not the butt stuff) and decided he was going to squeeze himself between them to find more wonderful things.
SUDDENLY!!!!! Things started moving around from above him and then underneath and around him. He made a run for it and laid low amongst some fine string kind of thing. (Cobwebbs) He held his head low and waited. Surly mum wouldn't spot him, not under here besides he was the champion hidder. Too late, he could see her staring back at him and knew he had to be smarter then ever before and make another quick dash to freedom. He ran this way and that way, climbed on the metal hard things in hope for a quick get away. He looked and looked for a way out but it was know good. This new mum was very clever and had blocked all the escape routes to freedom. She placed this long tunnel at the side of him and tried to get him into the tunnel. He wasn't having any of that and made a dash but she wasn't giving up. Everywhere was blocked and no where to hide. The only way to go was towards the tunnel., in a mad panic he ran in the tunnel and realised was trapped. He became a little distracted by some white tasty seeds in the tube and began eating them. Mum waited till he had finished and gently lifted him up and placed him gently into a big strange place. Someone else was with him, they smelt the same as him and partly the same colour but he was a little unsure. They greeted him and wanted to jump on him to give him a good check over to see who this new memember of the group was. They sniffed and nudged each other around the cage checking out each other . He felt a little out numbered but yet felt kinda safe. He knew he had a new friend who greeted him calmly then moved on. The others were more pushy and wouldn't leave him alone until he stood his ground and made it clear he was not going to be bullied by some young whippetsnips .
So now they are all having a debate on who is boss , who can do this and who can do that. The two younger boys are having their usual spats but not bothering Greg to much . Pinky has been a good boy and gently made friends with Greg.

He loves the nice big wheel and is finding his way around the cage.
I have put another bowl of pellets in another place in the cage and sprinkled other natural greens all around the cage to make sure Greg gets some food. I have been watching them all afternoon and they have now settled down. Going to check on them before I go to bed and give them time in the play pen tomorrow.

I would like to induce this little boy all the way from up north. His name is Greg and he is a pye like all my other boys. I am hoping that he will be a new friend for Pinky to Snuggle with and hope the other two monsters don't pick on him to much or smacked bottoms will be in order. LOL.

SO I have been a little concerned about two of my girls. They both looked very skinny compared to the other two girls so I decided to weigh them and guess what. They both weighed around 210grams there abouts which quite surprised me. Why do they look so skinny compared to Bubble And Squeek. Masiey has always been the smaller one but Milly looked really thin but they are not underweight. I made sure they hadn't eaten before the weigh in so I knew it wasn't that. Guess it's just me panicking. They are all happy little souls and Masiey is coming out of her Scary cat mode. Yippie.

Oh mummy I am so snuggly in my lovely fluffy bed. Thankyou mummy.

Hi, My Name is Mandy and I need your help.

Can you find it in your heart to make a small donation to rescue a rescue? I have been running a Leicester based rescue for degus almost a decade now, with a little help from friends but mostly from my own pocket. These sweet, social, intelligent little animals are greatly misunderstood, and so many are discarded. Others live horrible lives. Some make it to my rescue and get another chance. Here they are loved. Cared for. Nurtured. But providing homes and care for so many little ones has depleted my resources. From my own pocket I have fed, housed, cared for and provided medical care for over 400 of these little ones, not including babies, but now I get so many that the cost is beyond my modest means. I am only one person. My objective has always been to re-home these lost little ones. Find new forever homes where they will be loved and cared for. Until they are re-homed, however, they remain in my care. They trust me and I won’t let them down. Small donations add up. And what can they do? So much! Cages. Food. Vet visits for the sick. Medicine. Treats and toys to make their lives happy. Under my care they are like family. They ARE family. When they near the end of life, I hold and cuddle them, talk softly to them, warm and cuddle them until they peacefully pass. You can’t imagine how awful I feel when one needs medical care and the funds just aren’t there. Or if I have to make the awful choice of helping one and denying another. The elderly ones retire here, knowing human kindness in their final years. That is why I have set up a gofundme, (see the “Donate” button on the home screen) so I can keep doing this, keep pursuing this passion and love I have caring for these sweet little animals. To show them the good side of humanity. I do all I can, everything I can: build cages, travels hundreds of miles to re-home them, educate folks who need to know more, clean their wounds, administer their med’s, build them toys, and even harvest fresh food and make treats for them. I have a web site but even that now suffers from lack of funds. Now, the cages have worn. The vet bills have depleted my own personal resources, and the nightmarish prospect of perhaps having to close my rescue and cease helping these precious animals looms closer. There are rescues for many species of pet out there, but degus are not as well-known. They are in comparison, new in the pet world. My little rescue has been an oasis for those unfortunates who have been abandoned and will be abandoned. It breaks my heart to think that I’d ever have to turn one away. Can you help, even in a small way? Even a small donation will help buy food and medicine. The picture you see here is of a little family – a mother and her babies. They depend on her, and she depends on me now to help care for her little ones. Is there a new forever home in their future? I offer my deepest heartfelt thanks in advance to you for considering helping my precious rescue. -Mandy
