Last week, we held our first commercial sheep flock group vasectomy day! 🐑

A busy week of educational meetings for our team!

A huge thank you to Beth T, Matt, Charlie and Chere for joining us at our very first Commercial Flock Discussion Group meeting in Barrowden. We hope you found the session valuable and took plenty away from the discussions. We look forward to welcoming you back to future meetings!

We'd also like to thank Chris and Beth T for delivering an informative presentation on Calving & the Prevention of Downer Cows at Green Pasture Farms. It was great to see so many people attending and engaging with such an important topic.

Bluetongue Update

Bluetongue virus (BTV) cases continue to be reported across the UK, with many cases occurring in the South West. The disease is seen mainly in cattle and sheep and can cause severe illness, particularly in sheep, where it may result in significant morbidity and mortality.

Common clinical signs include:
• Swollen face
• Drooling
• Nasal discharge and crusting
• Ulcers on the dental pad
• Lameness
• Redness between the claws (interdigital redness)
• Recumbency in severe cases

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to help protect susceptible livestock and reduce the impact of disease. If you would like to discuss Bluetongue vaccination or your herd or flock's risk, please contact our vet team for advice.

Today is with and Morrisons !

Here's a snapshot of what our farm vets and support teams have been up to throughout the day. Have a scroll through the photos to see what a day in farm practice really looks like!

7am – Beth W attended with a calving after an early morning call-out.
8am – Charlie carried out a routine fertility visit (with a little treat for his assistant).
10am – Sonny popped into the office to finish off health plans.
11am – Saffron conducted a post mortem to assess the prognosis.
12pm – Robyn was on her way to complete a bTB read.
1pm – Charlotte was busy taking blood samples from a group of calves.
2pm – Beth T was busy visiting a goat for a health check up.
3pm – The Melton team were running faecal egg counts.
4pm – Matt topped up his medicine supplies, ready for the next call.
5pm – The Lutterworth team sent off the day's laboratory samples.

It's been a busy week of teaching for the team!

Molly has been getting stuck in alongside Max, supporting fertility visits, while Charlie has been busy at Northfield Farm delivering CPD sessions covering visual health assessments, clinical examinations, blood sampling, animal handling, and risk assessments.

Great to see everyone sharing their knowledge and supporting the next generation of livestock professionals!
