Let’s talk about crates for a second 🐾
You know those mornings where you open your eyes, do your gratitude, take a deep breath, and think, “Right, today’s going to be a good one.” ( me about 15 minutes ago)
And then you open Facebook, and the first post you see is absolute bullsht* about crates and dens being horrific torture chambers for dogs.
So let’s set the record straight shall we.
Yes, if you use a crate badly to make your life easier all day long, it’s confinement.
But when you use it well, it’s comfort, safety, and structure all rolled into one.
Crates aren’t about control. They’re about helping our dogs feel settled 🐶.
They give them a predictable place to switch off, decompress, and feel secure, especially in busy homes where proper rest doesn’t always come easy.
The difference is simple. We don’t shove them in there and hope for the best. We teach them that their crate is their space, a cosy spot to snooze, not a punishment corner 🦴.
And let’s not forget the real-world wins we all need:
✅ Safety during travel or recovery
✅ A familiar base when life gets chaotic
✅ Protection from hazards (especially for pups who think wires taste great)
✅ And a brilliant way to help dogs learn to self-settle
So no, crates aren’t cruel when used with care and understanding. They’re one of the kindest tools we can offer when we pair them with patience, trust, and consistency 🐕.
If your dog chooses to curl up in their crate for a nap, that’s not confinement, that’s confidence they have their own space .
What about you? Does your dog love their crate, or are you still working on helping them feel safe there?
