I wish more organisations were as sensible as The Freston Boot.
It’s going to be far too hot to be out walking with your pups this weekend, keep them home and cool where possible. ☀️🐾

🐾 Consider adding extra water bowls around the house and garden so your dog always has easy access to fresh water.

🐾 If you’re leaving your dog at home while you head out to enjoy the sunshine, think about how long you’ll be away and whether they can move freely to a cooler room, shaded area, or comfortable space if they start to feel too warm.

🐾 Cooling mats, shaded airflow, and frozen enrichment treats can all help dogs stay comfortable during the heat.

Looks who is going to be at Edition Dog Live
Set to be a GREAT show this year over two days and we are back this year too !

If you’ve read our blog, you’ll know Harvey and I have been working with the fabulous Nina from Confident Canine - Nina KCAI WG, the Holistic Gundog Trainer

We had another great session today and encountered lots of dogs most of them off lead!

Harvey did brilliantly. Me… slightly less so. Just as I felt myself recovering from one close encounter, another one (sometimes two at once!) would appear.

We hear a lot about trigger stacking and “buckets filling” for our dogs, and how important it is to give them time and space to decompress and “empty their bucket”.

You’ll have seen me using enrichment with Harvey for this or scatter feeding in the garden to give him some easy, rewarding sniff time and help lower those cortisol levels.

As we walked back across the field, Nina suggested that maybe I needed to empty my bucket too🪣

Naturally, my mind immediately went to a large glass of wine🍷 and perhaps a handful of salted cashews scattered across the lawn for me to forage for. It definitely made us laugh.

So now I’m curious…

What’s your version of a human lick mat or enrichment activity? Funny suggestions very welcome… but I’d also genuinely love to hear the things that help you decompress after a stressful day.

In the meantime, I’m going to spend some time writing in my lovely new journal designed by Nina, reflecting on today and the progress Harvey and I are making together ❤️
