The world can be quite overwhelming with you’re a puppy; it’s Obi’s first time experiencing all these new places! I love being able to give him the support and guidance he needs to explore with confidence, as well as focus and engage with me as needed so he can learn how to deal with new things as well as apply his training.

As I’m sure you’ve seen, there is a serious heat warning out in the UK for the rest of the week! ☀️☀️☀️

Please be very careful of your dog in the hot weather. Standard warnings apply; don’t walk your dog through the day, and look out for any signs your dog is overheating and take appropriate action. But also please remember that just like us, dogs may feel grumpy and uncomfortable in this weather. Please be mindful they may be more sensitive than usual and some behaviour issues may be exacerbated in the heat. So if you know your dog struggles with a behaviour issue, give them extra space this week!

“Responsible Dog Owner” … you’ve probably heard the phrase a million times, but what does it mean?

Cleaning up after your dog? ✅️
Keeping your dog under control? ✅️
Teaching a reliable recall and good manners?✅️
Being considerate of other people and other dogs & animals?✅️
Ensuring your dog gets regular appropriate exercise ✅️
Ensuring your dog has appropriate food and health care?✅️
Ensuring your dog has appropriate outlets for their behaviours and their mental and physical needs are all met✅️

Those are the basics but what else does it mean to you?

The Ruffmutz dog would like to add
🐾 Ensuring the human buys you at least 3 beds for around the house but letting you sleep on their bed anyway.
🐾 Ensuring a constant supply of all the treats so you can spend 5 minutes choosing which you want that evening.
🐾Taking you tracking at every opportunity, even if it's tipping it down
🐾 Arranging play dates in dog fields with your besties so everyone can share the mud.

They say it's good to train with distractions🤣🤣

Occasionally mid session we get joined by the robomower, I think it thinks it's a dog. It has a rubbish recall though! 🤣

Would you stop this behaviour?

I didn’t. We LOVE mud, well one of us does🤣. Jenga is having an amazing time playing in the stream with a stick. She’s expressing natural play behaviour,using her paws and nose to manipulate her environment, and is having a great time and after all it is her walk!

I don't want 100% gaze on me all of the time. It's personal choice, but i like her to have her own time on a walk. She's a dog not a robot.

Sometimes we have to remember to let them have fun, let them do dogstuff and let dogs be dogs.

This is absolutely the best part of my job. Being out and about getting to spend time with fantastic dogs and their brilliant owners. This is why we do the job!

Running your own buisness can be incredibly tough. While social media might have you thinking we spend all our time hanging with our 4 legged besties, there's so much more to it!

The admin that just never quite seems to get finished, the stress of a completely unpredictable income, the emotional rollercoaster from being so invested in your clients, the overwhelm at the thought of trying to get your accounts together, the non-stop trying to come up with new ideas and trying to keep up with social media and whatever is trendy this month, and the eternal battle of work life balance and missed family events. I'm sure there's loads of people out there who can completely relate! Self employment and small business is tough!

But this photo is why I keep doing it! That moment where all you see is the dog in front of you, and the client proud as punch of the progress their dog is making. So thankyou to all my family and awesome friends who support me, and to each and every one of my clients who make it the best job in the world.

Our summer 2026 Scentwork foundations series could be just what you’re looking for.

6 sessions, held over three standalone modules. Suitable for beginners.

🐾Module 1
Beginnings: Motivation and understanding the search.
June 29th and July 13th 6.30 to 7.30 pm

🐾Module 2
Building skills: Indication, basic searches, odour value & handler skills.
August 3rd and August 17th 6.30 to 7.30 pm

🐾Module 3
Bringing it together: Search patterns, teamwork and competition styles.
Sept 21st & Sept 28th 6.30 to 7.30 pm

Two instructors for the whole series to help make sure there's loads of time for everyone!

These sessions will be held at our Brockholes indoor venue in Huddersfield.
Each Module is £65, or you can book all 3 for £185. Spaces are very limited (4) and dogs must be comfortable working in close proximity to other dogs and people to attend. Priority will be given to those booking all three modules . Booking for all three modules is live now, booking for the individual modules will go live on Saturday.🔥🔥
