A crate can be a wonderful place to be ❤️

Creating a positive association and therefore creating a safe place for your dog can really aid your dogs training. Crates can be a great aid in your training programme and help your dog get much needed shut off time and mental/physical rest along with structure in their new routine.

Shutting off can be really hard for them to do especially in busy households. Imagine trying to sleep in a bed in the middle of Tescos 🫩

Daisy & Narla had never been in a crate before the weekend. Both are reactive inside the house for numerous reasons so we introduced them to one in our recent sessions. Both girls did great in the sessions and the same night both made their own choice to go there and fall asleep 😍

Dogs aren’t always the best at decision makers and have the mental age of a 2 year old.. they’re not always good at recognising when they’re tired. They need more sleep than you realise. Puppies need around 16-18 hours sleep a day. Adults can range from 14-16 dependant on lifestyle. Sleep deprivation can lead to a very hyperactive and overstimulated dog.. they definitely don’t make the best decisions and those decisions will eventually creep into habits. Those habits can include reactivity, destruction and poor manners and behaviour overall 🥴

Not everyone agrees with crates and that’s okay. I personally advocate for them as I know just how important a safe place and good sleep is to them. My girls are crate trained and have crate time daily much to their enjoyment. It’s their safe place and part of their routine and I’ll never remove their right to having that. It works for them and it works for me 🧡💙

Crates really aren’t the devil when you introduce them properly and take the time to desensitise and build that association. Who would turn up the chance to having their space? 😉

Mindset & Perception Matter! 👏

These two things directly go hand in hand and helping one helps the other! ❤️

Your mindstate can change your perception and your perception can change your mindstate.

I was with a client earlier on in a 1:1. We haven’t seen each other in a couple of months so a lot has happened in that time and the dog in question has progressed in some areas and taken a couple of steps back in a couple of areas which is completely normal when changing behaviour!

We were walking and along came a dog that typically the dog in question would struggle with. I saw in real time how the owners intrusive thoughts changed his physical actions and Max had a small reaction in that instance due to the subtle changes he wasn’t aware of. I pointed this out to the owner and it was something he wasn’t aware he did at all, it was subconscious thoughts becoming conscious actions 🧠🧐

I asked him what’s your thought process when you see a dog? He said “Just get passed it”. Already there’s so much with that thought that will change your actions, he was preparing his brain for a battle that might not even happen. So the next dog we came across I told him when he see’s it to change that thought to “it’s just a dog” and they passed with no issues and no changes. This happened several times and he couldn’t believe it.

If you tell your brain to panic it absolutely will. It does not know the difference between reality and an intrusive thought. Telling your brain to chill out isn’t as easy in the moment so you have to have a plan. The more mental prep is in place the smoother things will become. Instead of thinking OH GOD think OPPORTUNITY! Dont forget to breathe, relax your tension and keep your movements fluid and follow your training plan 👍

What’s on the inside shows through to the outside. Confidence shines from within and trust me your dog knows when your confident and when your winging it. They can sense it ❤️

♦️ Everyone meet Ruby Roo ♦️

She is a very young and very enthusiastic German shepherd and she has become abit of a handful at home and out on walks!

We discovered during our assesment that due to age and other factors Ruby isn’t the best as self control. She always wants to be on the go and she constantly hassles the resident dog which escalates stress levels in the home 🏠

Out on walks she pulls from pillar to post in every direction, she kicks off if she see’s a dog as she becomes so overexcited but it puts a lot of people off due to her breed. We started off with some simple commands, reward markers and teaching her a concept or pressure and release and we had a beautiful heel walk starting to come on 😍

I’m back very very soon to escalate this girl and I’m so excited for it! Enjoy your nap Ruby, You’ve worked hard and deserve it ❤️

I met a very handsome boy called Max 😍

He’s absolutely stunning 💙

However his behaviour can be less stunning LOL!

Max is your typical spaniel, full of life and full of drive and very sociable however it can come out at the wrong times. He’s a cracking lad and really sociable but he can be a lot of dog! 🥴

Max needs help with his lead work, he is reactive to other dogs as he is so excitable by them, he needs help tuning up his recall and work on settling in the house and social situations. He can also resource guard around his food which we will be working on too 👏

We started off with the basics! Powering up his reward marker and negative markers and began by teaching what a lead is and what we would like from him and he did incredible. We are introducing more breed fulfilment for him and much more structure which will help with his inner fizz 🍾

Great to meet you Max and co! Cant wait to hear your progress on the coming weeks ❤️

Oh what a day!! ☀️

I’ve spent the day with Daisy and her lovely owner today and we’ve hit some really good training goals ⚽️

We began our day with Daisy going bonkers at me for having the audacity to walk up her drive so we showed the owner how to gain control and also how to teach and condition better behaviours in the presence of strangers 💃🕺

We helped to condition Daisy to a crate as she needs structure as part of her day to day routine and she took to it really well 👏

Then we headed out into the big bad world for some much needed exposure to other people and other dogs and how the world works and she did absolutely amazing. Some close encounters and she could even dismiss a couple of dogs who decided to have a go at her which usually she would fire straight back 😍

Her owner has learnt some valuable knowledge today and really began to see how our handling plays into our dogs behaviour. Well done team for a really good day I’m super proud of you ❤️

Whether You Own 1 Dog, 2 Dogs Or 10… 🥴

They all need 1:1 time and attention from you! ⏰

Doing what your dog loves the most will always help your bond. Whether that might be playing with them, training them for food rewards or playing the chase game they always appreciate attention ❤️

The majority of behaviour cases I work through during the assessment it is evident that the dog is not getting the right kind of attention and in the right places. It is never intentional, usually the human side of things don’t even realise their habits. Our dogs are social creatures and very much require a good social bond with their handler over everything ❤️

Humans have bought and bred dogs for years to work alongside us and to live in harmony along side us. Usually those two things go hand in hand and work can look different for every dog. Their roles in our lives may have changed but they never sign up for a couch potato kind of life.. bar a few very extreme cases I’ve met where the dog was genuinely a couch potato 😂

Get out there in the world and have a great time with your dog! Whether you train, you play or just hang out. That 1:1 time is precious for your relationship. You get out what you put in ❤️

My third and final client of the day has also given up the ghost after a very challenging session 😂

Roxy’s owners faces nearly hit the floor when I suggested a location today but they rolled with it and they did really really good to say it was way out of the comfort zone👏

Stepping out of your comfort zone is where the real learning happens! Staying in your comfort zone keeps you stuck but it can be good for respite when you need it most. Knowing when and where to use it in your journey is important!

Enjoy your snooze Roxy Roo! Well done for today ❤️🐾
