Often owners ask me 'what is good/appropriate play'? - here's a good graphic 👇

Is your dog a boxer?
Front paws or "boxing" ✅
This can be a slow reach out or a few "tap taps" usually around the face.
Watching those little bodies wriggle and bow ☺️
Bounciness and wiggles✅
That's one way to make an assessment on what is happening.
That is breed dependent though and it doesn't mean a dog that can't wiggle much is saying no.....so we look for other signs too.

Wriggles and fast feet⬇️
This needs a little explanation.
Those fast feet and wriggles can mean different things depending on the direction those pitter patters are heading to.
Some dogs that are nervous or may not want any interaction can do a "happy dance"....it's not happy at all.
Easily misread by us as happiness when in reality they can be panicked.
So are those quick feet directed towards or away from this other dog?

➡️Just because it starts as a 'not right now"....it doesn't mean they can't change their mind.
Many do after a few meetings when they get a better "feel" for this dog.

Just a few tips to help because it really can be a time of mixed messages.

The lovely Vinnie needed some help due to being reactive towards small children, some dogs & having some issues in the home such as finding it difficult to be left alone. He was quite stressed & anxious when I first met him & had a big loud bark 🫣
Well fast forward a few weeks to now & whilst we’ve had a few bumps in the road, we’ve turned those into a positive & used them to our advantage & Vinnie has made an impressive turnaround… I’m very pleased with his progress, very well done 🏆🌟🐾

1 to 1s are going thick & fast this week!! Little Pebble here has been a joy! Here she is in a beautiful pic I have to say with her dad, after a few sessions working on some ‘puppy niggles’. It’s been a pleasure 💖❤️💖😊

This beautiful girl, Bay, returned after a number of years… I first met her when she was a puppy at Greenside Starters. Bay now needed some help with walking better, an issue that was made much worse by her wanting to chase shadows & being extremely hyper stimulated by sunlight. With the dedication of Nat her owner, she’s really made a great improvement so far, I’m really proud of her… not an easy solve! 🏆🌟🐾

Grass seed warning ⚠️🌱

Do you know the dangers that grass seeds can cause? Their tiny arrowheads attach onto dogs - particularly breeds with longer fur. They can pe*****te their way into the skin, causing harmful injuries that could potentially require surgery.

Always check your dog's fur thoroughly after woodland walks or running through meadows. Monitor their behaviour by keeping an eye out for the warning signs of grass seeds - this could be head shaking, limping, coughing, sneezing, paw licking and lethargy.

If you spot a grass seed, gently remove it with your hands or tweezers - if its burrowed deeper (sometimes you may not even see it!), take your dog to the vet immediately.
