The most exciting start to the week!

I am officially an FEI permitted therapist! This means I am able to treat at FEI events and have passed the FEI exam to say I am competent in the rules and regulations surrounding competition and stabling at events as well as the regulations surrounding what I can and can’t do as a therapist!

This has been a long time in the making and I am so immensely proud of everything I have achieved. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible and here’s to a very exciting summer!!

Welsh Masters 2026 🩶

To say I am proud would be an understatement. To all of my incredible riders/clients/horses you have exceeded all my expectations and made my week incredible. Treating some amazing horses who went on to jump mega rounds, grooming for my wonderful friend and watching her hard work pay off and spending time with people who I look up to within the equine world is honestly making my heart so full.

I love my job beyond words and cannot wait for everything to come. There are some very exciting things happening and could not be more excited to share soon! 👀

Following on from our last post regarding the importance of physiotherapy in the return to work it is only fair to continue that conversation.

So often I see riders who want their horse to return to full work, achieving their athletic goals of being back at the top of the sport. Whilst in some cases this is fully achievable and although a long road lies ahead we can manage to get them back to pre injury level and sometimes achieve more than we could dream. For others the expectation must be less, we have to take the horses welfare into account and unfortunately some injuries have a much more guarded prognosis. This is not to say we can’t achieve goals but that conversation has to be had at the beginning and that’s where people skills are vital as a veterinary physiotherapist.

But alas we divert from the topic at hand. The return to work relies on
Tailored individual structured program focusing on strength, symmetry, correct muscle build, balance and fitness
Remedial exercises focusing on increasing workload at a sensible rate
The use of INDIBA radiofrequency to aid in promotion of healing properties/increase in blood flow/relaxation of tension and the overall improvement of performance
Hard work from owner/rider

Rushing the process because the next big event is 6 weeks away might pay off but we should consider longevity and ensuring they can withstand that level of work to achieve goals and reach the top without re-injury.

We so often talk about getting a veterinary physiotherapist involved during an injury/period of rest and helping to work alongside the vets in recovery and aiding in the maintenance during periods of rest. But we need to consider the importance of continuing to involve your veterinary physiotherapist after injury and in the process of coming back into work.

Coming back into work following an injury whether a tendon/ligament issue or a muscle tear or a fracture or even a wound, the horses body will have found compensatory support which may have contributed to tightness and discomfort which isn’t normal for them. They may have adapted their gait thus adapting change in musculature which leads to asymmetry. Fitness is another matter that people assume is easy to gain but needs to be done through a correct program. We also have to take into consideration that re-injury especially with a tendon/ligament is more likely and rushing back into previous work load can cause problems.

As a veterinary physiotherapist that is my role to help create an individual tailored plan utilising manual physiotherapy/electrotherapies/remedial exercises and working with vets/farriers/coaches to help reach those goals.

Pleased to announce I have renewed my membership with the NAVP for another year.

What does this mean?
It means I have met their requirements for CPD which is roughly 25 hours a year. CPD plays a pivotal role in ensuring I am up to date with my knowledge and skills allowing the gold standard of treatment for your horses/dogs/sheep/cows!
I also hold insurance to be able to treat your animals safely and is recognised by the NAVP.
Finally the NAVP is a recognised professional organisation that upholds the gold standard of practice within our profession and is widely recognised by veterinary surgeons and insurance companies.

I am looking forward to 2026 and cannot wait to continue treating lots of incredible animals!
