How crazy is it that these two photos were taken less than 30 mins apart while working, this morning?! We have had some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets recently!

I’d love to see your horse in the comments with a pretty backdrop 🌅

Feeding a horse isn’t just about chucking a feed at them 🪣🐴

It might look like a simple part of the daily routine, but there’s actually a lot more to feeding than filling a bucket and walking away.

Getting the correct feed and correct quantities is important for every horse, particularly those with dietary sensitivities or specific nutritional requirements. For some horses, feeding the wrong thing can increase the risk of an allergic reaction, digestive upset or colic.

It’s also about making sure feeds are prepared properly. Knowing which feeds need soaking, how they should be soaked and for how long, making sure everything is properly wetted down, and ensuring medications are mixed in correctly and actually consumed.

And if you’re feeding multiple horses together in the field, it’s important to make sure they are kept away from each other’s feeds. Not only does this make sure each horse actually gets the feed intended for them, it also reduces the risk of horses becoming possessive over their buckets, fighting or wolfing down their feed because another horse is trying to get involved.

Which brings me nicely onto my next part… choke.

Anyone responsible for horses should know the signs of choke, know that it is an emergency situation, and understand what they can safely do while waiting for veterinary advice. Being able to recognise that something isn’t right quickly can make a huge difference.

As a freelance groom, feeding is something I take seriously. Every horse has their own routine, their own requirements and sometimes their own little quirks when it comes to eating!

It’s not just “chuck a feed in.”

It’s knowing what you’re feeding, how much you’re feeding, how it needs to be prepared, what’s going into it and what to do if something goes wrong.

Because good horse care is all about the little details. 💜🐴

Sometimes it’s so easy to compare yourself to others and feel like what you’re doing isn’t enough.

You see someone else’s business growing, someone else achieving more, looking busier, reaching more people… and you forget to stop and look at what you are actually doing.

I only look after around 15 horses a day. But, that’s around 100 horses every week.
400 horses every month.
And around 1,200 horses every 3 months.

1,200 times horses owners have trusted me to care for their partners in crime🤍

And behind every number is an individual horse. A horse who needs their feet picking out, their water checked, their hay given, their stable mucked out, their medication, their rug changed, their reassurance, their exercise… or sometimes just someone to notice that they’re not quite themselves.

It’s easy for me to look at my own day-to-day work and think, “I’m just doing my job.”

But when I actually stop and think about it, I’m making a difference to a lot of horses.

So if you’re feeling like your impact isn’t big enough, or like you’re not doing enough compared to everyone else…

Take a step back.

Look at how many people, animals or lives you’ve already made a difference to.

Sometimes you don’t realise the impact you have. 🤍

And maybe you’re doing far more than you give yourself credit for. 🐴✨

I’m trying to take a step back from using AI in photos but after a slight wobble this week, this has really helped so here is my insight.

Had the absolute pleasure of photographing this crew this week with 4 horses. Especially special as one will be moving off to a new home after weaning and the little two won’t be little for much longer!

I will be doing an offer on photographs for the rest of August and the whole of September so if you want to get some piccies in while summer is still here and kids are off school, comment or message me OFFER and I will send you more info 💜

A different kind of ride! 🐴🌿

Bit of a different job the other day! I helped a fellow equine groom move her three horses about an hour down the road to their summer grazing.

A bit of teamwork meant we had all three covered — I rode the (mostly😂) trusty steed, one was walked and the other was long-lined. Three horses, three different methods, but all safely making their way to their new home for a few months! 💜

It was such a lovely change from the usual yard jobs, and always nice to help out another groom when needed! 🐴
