This woolly labradoodle is feeling much lighter and cooler after having mat removal and a good tidy up this evening.

Labradoodles have a mix of wool and wire coat. Meaning as a groomer you never quite know what to expect when they come in! Mainly wire coated labradoodles can be stripped out where woolly ones need clipper and scissor work.

Not only do they vary in coat but size too! Luckily for Maddie this evening this older gentleman was not too big although very big hearted 💕

Is my dog feeling the heat? 🔥

Your dog’s coat is clever and works in ways that can help insulate and keep them cool. In general it’s not about how short you take the coat, it’s about how thick it is.

For your dog to enjoy the summer as much as I do! Of course follow all the guidelines about not walking them in mid day sun, find shade and plenty of water. But a big factors which will help is look after their coat.

Few tips:

☀️ Make sure your dog is mat free

☀️ If double coated (most dogs are) ensure there coat isn’t feeling too thick, if it is contact your kind ethos dog groomer to strip out some coat for them. Especially helpful for those retrievers and spaniel breeds

☀️ Make sure in between their paw pads are clear of fur. We offer a pawdicure service for this reason

☀️ Book them in for a cool wash. Dogs skin helps them regulate their body temperature so keep them free of dirt, dander and excess oil

The sun ☀️ may have arrived but please rest assured we keep our dogs cool in the salon 😎

Both floors of the salon are fully air conditioned. We have water bowls at the ready and cool dry settings on our dryers.

And of course the Be: Dog way is to always read your dog so at any point they are not happy we stop ✋

2 Bernese Mountain Dogs trashed our salon 🫣 the fur was crazy! The clean up after was even crazier!! 🧽

Big blowouts like this are not easy and there is as much work after the groom with cleaning up all the fur.

Both dogs were amazing, we went at their pace and had to work mainly on the floor as one only wanted to commit 2 paws onto the table ☺️

Well done Simon and Amy, your work was incredible 👏
