Here Comes The Sun ❤️

Finally we have a little taste of summer, and just in time for the school break.

Please follow these tips to keep your pets safe during the heatwave:

Keep dogs cool by walking early in the morning or late evening. A short walk is all they need on exceptionally hot days.

Provide shaded areas and plenty of fresh water for all pets, You could add a few ice cubes to help keep the water cool.

Consider providing cooling mats or damp towels for animals to lay on.

NEVER LEAVE A PET SHUT IN A CAR, CONSERVATORY OR SUMMERHOUSE.

Dogs and cats may appreciate the chance to run through a sprinkler to cool off. Please bear in mind that rabbits should not be soaked so a sprinkler may not be a suitable method for cooling them, although they may appreciate a very quick spray with a fine mist.

Use a pet safe sunscreen on pale, pink or thin areas such as ears, nose and tummy.

If you're taking a dog to the beach remember if the sand is hot on your feet, then it is hot for the dog too. Take shade, poo bags and dont forget to take plenty of fresh water - drinking the sea water will lead to sickness and dehydration. Always rinse your dog after swimming in salt water to prevent skin irritation.

Signs of HEATSTROKE include:
Excessive panting and drooling
Lethargy
Vomitting
Collapse

PLEASE SEEK VETERINARY HELP IMMEDIATELY IF YOU SUSPECT HEATSTROKE.

🐢✨ Post-Hibernation Care Tips for Your Tortoise ✨🐢
Waking up from hibernation is a big moment for your tortoise—here’s how to help them get back to full health safely 👇
💧 Hydration First (Bathing)
Give your tortoise a lukewarm bath daily for the first week (15–20 mins). This helps rehydrate them and encourages toileting. Make sure the water is shallow and supervised at all times.
⚡ Boost Their Recovery
Consider a supportive supplement like ReptoBoost to help replenish energy and nutrients after hibernation. Always follow veterinary guidance on dosage.
🥬 Food Guide – Start Light
Your tortoise may not eat immediately—this is normal. Offer:
• Fresh weeds (dandelion, plantain, sow thistle)
• Leafy greens (spring greens, rocket)
• Avoid fruit and high-protein foods
🌡️ Warmth & UVB Are Essential
Ensure your tortoise has access to proper heat and UVB lighting to kickstart digestion and metabolism.
⚖️ Check Their Weight
Weigh your tortoise after waking and monitor regularly. Significant weight loss or lack of appetite? Contact your vet.
🚨 Watch for Warning Signs
• Not eating after 7 days
• Lethargy or weakness
• Runny nose or eyes
If you notice any of these, seek veterinary advice promptly.
💚 A gentle wake-up routine makes all the difference—happy, healthy tortoises start with the right care!

🌸 Spring is in the air! 🌸
We love seeing the brighter days and blooming gardens—but it’s important to remember that spring can bring some hidden dangers for our pets.
⚠️ Keep an eye out for:
• Slug pellets
• Spring bulbs
• Pesticides
• Lilies
• Daffodils
🌿 Looking for pet-safe alternatives? Consider planting:
• Roses
• Sunflowers
• Orchids
• Pansies
🐾 As the weather warms up, ticks also become more active.
Please check your pet regularly after they’ve been outside and ensure they’re up to date with flea and tick prevention.
If you’re ever unsure about what’s safe for your pet, don’t hesitate to get in touch—we’re here to help! 💚
