We know Pets’ Corner holds treasured memories for so many families over the years — and we’d love the people who have helped make Pets’ Corner so special to become part of our 60th anniversary artwork.

As we prepare to celebrate 60 amazing years, we’re creating a permanent piece of artwork that will be displayed at Pets’ Corner for everyone to enjoy in the years to come — and we want your memories to help bring it to life.

We know how sad our statement was losing Bracken and Ivy, we all really appreciate the care and concern being shown for them. We would like to take this opportunity to answer why Ivy was also put to sleep.

As stated in the original post both Bracken and Ivy had ongoing health issues and were under the care of our specialist veterinary team and being monitored by our keepers on a daily basis.

Although Ivy’s condition was not quite as severe as Brackens she was also deteriorating and both reindeer were seriously unwell. After Brackens decision to sadly put her to sleep it then raised the question of Ivy’s welfare. Ivy had the same condition, and being a herd animal the stress of her being alone without any herd mates would have caused Ivy to rapidly deteriorate leading to her becoming incredibly distressed and losing all quality of life, the timescale would have been short for her to reach that state most likely a week or two at maximum.

It was a heart breaking decision that had to be made by our keepers with vets advice and that decision was made based on the welfare and comfort of Ivy. Thankyou for understanding at this very difficult time for us all.

We’re heartbroken to share the sad news of the passing of our two much-loved reindeer, Ivy and Bracken.

Bracken joined Pets’ Corner in 2014 aged 5 and was the gentlest soul, going on to reach 17 years old. There was absolute delight when she gave birth here to Ivy, who grew into an inquisitive character, always happy to come and say hello.

As the girls grew older, they faced ongoing health issues which were carefully monitored and managed by our keepers and specialist veterinary teams. Our team worked incredibly hard to give them the very best quality of life, but sadly Bracken took a turn for the worse and the difficult decision was made to let them both go peacefully.

Reindeer have been such a special part of Pets’ Corner over the years, bringing joy to so many visitors and staff alike. While our paddock will feel much quieter now, we are so grateful for the memories we shared and would love for you to share your own happy memories of Ivy and Bracken.
