Is your hamster happy? 💕 Hamsters show happiness in lots of small, everyday behaviours.

Every pet is different - if yours is acting out of character or excessively, speak to your vet.

Read our guide on keeping hamsters healthy and happy- from diet and bedding to toys and wellbeing: https://pdsa.me/rjmL

[Visual description: An infographic showing signs of a happy hamster, including eagerness at feeding time, healthy eating habits, paw‑licking (note: if excessive, contact your vet), active exploring, and regular chewing or gnawing. It also highlights that hiding away for long periods may indicate something isn't quite right.]

It’s heart breaking to see your pet getting old and beginning to struggle with day to day activities but there are things that you can do to make life easier for them.
See the tips below:
🐾 Slower , shorter sniffy dog walks, snuffle mats and games to keep them mentally stimulated and active.
🐾 Mats to help them on slippery floors
🐾 Dog buggy for dogs that still like to walk but can’t always manage the distances for days out.
🐾 Lift feeding bowls off the floor so they find it easier to eat without bending down
🐾 Make a ramp or use an object to help your pet get to their favourite spot such as the bed, sofa or window ledge.
🐾 Speak to one of our vets about the different pain relief options and any changes in behaviour.
🐾 Be aware that toileting habits may be more frequent.
🐾 Consider physiotherapy or hydrotherapy to manage mobility and muscle loss.
🐾 Ask one of our nurses about nutrition to help with changes in weight.
🐾 Make quality time to spend with them. Making memories - every day is precious.
🐾 When you know time is running out consider the options. Simple ahead planning and discussions with the vet and your family can make a tough situation just a little less stressful.

We are here for you.

The heatwave is coming! A dog coming in to the practice with heatstroke is very distressing for anyone involved. Your dog could die. Just the sound of the dog desperately trying to breathe is horrendous so please, please be sensible!
