Catfish pro cat care gel…

I see many anglers argue over whether these ‘treatments’ actually help fish. Yes catfish are tough as old boots, yes they’ll usually recover just fine on their own eventually but if we can assist that process, lower the risk of infection then as competent caring anglers why would we not?

The catfish pro gel was designed solely for use on fish unlike most general livestock sprays that are usually advertised for catfish.

Catfish Pro team member Finley Bond received his junior catfish angler of the year for 2024 last week, completely well deserved and he has already smashed his PB this season!

The prizes for 2024 were a total clean sweep for team catfish pro with our consultants winning both the UK and European awards and Fin taking the junior, it’s like we always say…

Team manager Chris has just got home from a special trip to Spain, he’s been visiting with his dad for nearly three decades and is the reason he became a cat angler in the first place!

Sadly due to ill health this was to be Bury seniors last year so along with his wife, brother and sister-in-law as well as the awesome Ditch, Ami and Marnie at Ebro Mad Cats they made the most of it, sun, sangria, awesome company and even a few catfish - exactly what angling is and should be all about ❤️❤️❤️

Upper Seine Success for Cat Pro’s Brad Coker

Cat Pro consultant Brad Coker and his fishing partner Gary Dyer made the most of the May bank holiday weekend with a productive session on the upper Seine, landing nine catfish to an impressive 136lb.

Despite arriving late on the first evening, Brad wasted no time and set up in the dark. By 2am, he had already landed two small cats on worms presented on brick rigs tight to the near margin.

At first light, the feeder rods were deployed and added a variety of bream and barbel to the tally. While no cats showed during daylight hours, the action returned at dusk when a massive 134lb (2.10m) catfish took a tie-off rod bait. In classic fashion, a “schoolboy error” left Gary at the petrol station refueling the outboard, so Brad had to land the beast solo — without the use of the dinghy!

Day two remained quiet for cats until dusk struck again. The tie-off rod delivered once more, this time with a solid 102lb (2.00m) fish coming to the net.

Day three brought more catfish activity, and it was at first light on the final morning that Brad landed his third “ton up fish” — a 114lb (2.07m) specimen — followed closely by a 50lb cat to round off a memorable brace.

By lunchtime on bank holiday Monday, the pair had packed down and made it home that night — back at work by Tuesday, a little sleep-deprived but smiling!

We have sold thousands of rods over many years and it’s safe to say they are the most popular catfish rods in the UK and for very good reason!

The following is an article recently written for a CCG newsletter by Mr Catfish Pro Simon Clarke.

Catfish are probably the hardest fighting European freshwater fish you will ever hook. “What about barbel?” some say; whilst Barbel are heavily muscled and scrap hard they lack the stamina for the kind of sustained fight offered by almost every catfish you will hook.

Indeed some anglers are actually disappointed with their first catfish, as when it finally appears after a tough scrap, they expect it to be much bigger than it actually is due to the power of the fight!

I have found that catfish will often play you as hard as you play them; I vividly remember hooking a very large catfish in Russia and the boat guide immediately motioned for me to play the fish gently; this did work for a while….

Due to the nature of a catfish fight a rod should be able to absorb the runs and lunges, whilst being gentle on the hook hold, as well as having the base power to feed in if you need it.

The Catfish Pro rod range have been designed with this in mind; from the name onwards. They are designed with a “fish playing action” s opposed to a tip heavy casting action.

The “Persuader” rods have soft tips but plenty of beef through the blank if you need some stopping power. The rods all have plenty of rings to utilise the full power of the blanks.

The rod range has four varieties; Persuader 12ft 4.5lb t.c., 11ft 6in 5lb t.c. (in cork or duplon) and a 10ft 6in 5lb+ four piece travel version.

All Persuaders are bespoke blanks, have Fuji reel seats and rings throughout.

Our Top Cat Rod, is a budget version of the 12ft 4.5lb Persuader; with Fuji “style reel seat and rings (the tip ring is actually a fuji as it takes the most punishment).

Many anglers already enjoy using the Catfish Pro rods, I am proud of the range and love using them.

As with all aspects of catfishing – set your tackle up based on being able to land the biggest catfish in the lake; so you don’t get smashed up on the biggest fish.

Spod Rods????
I am often told by anglers that they have “been sold” or “been recommended” Spod rods, these rods typically have cheap inflexible blanks solely designed to a budget to cast out heavy spods and are not designed for playing fish on and Anglers will enjoy using specific catfish rods much better if they choose them. Sadly some catfish rods on the market are Spod rods with a catfish badge on.

Carp & Pike Rods???
For occasional anglers targetting smaller catfish, heavy carp rods and pike rods are an option, if they already possess some. However so many fisheries now contain ever larger catfish I recommend using catfish rods.

Catpro team member Geoff Scane has just started his first days fishing in Thailand, putting the Catpro pellet hooks and Catlink XT through their paces and as per usual they prove to be completely reliable wherever you fish around the world and whatever the size of your target!

Geoff has already had red tails upto 60 pounds and some big Julian’s carp to 40 as well - we say it everytime but when you use Catpro tackle it really is Tried. Tested. Trusted!!!

Catfish pro team member Barry Bond got something ultra rare in today’s catfish world - a potentially uncaught 101 pound beast from a water with no big cat history!

The water was ultra snaggy and Barry ended up having to land it in a boat to get the job done!

This is Barry’s third over the magic number already this year, the first being a PB but this has got to be my favourite so far - what do you all think?

The Catfish Pro XXL stopper beads are a true multi use product - awesome for all of
Your usual stopper bead situations whether float fishing or ledgering but in recent years anglers have been using them more and more to plug the hole on the top of a hair rigged pellet to both limit water ingress and to keep the pellet in place so it isn’t sliding up and down and potentially getting damaged!

Using these methods you can get a little more time out of your pellets before they break down - some times the simple things are the most effective ❤️
