🐾 Keeping Your Pups Cool & Safe in the Heatwave! ☀️🐕

As you know, it is absolutely scorching outside right now. I want to reassure all of my wonderful clients and followers that your dog’s safety, comfort, and well-being are my absolute top priorities.

​I am closely monitoring the weather and taking extra precautions in the salon to ensure the risk of heat stroke is kept to an absolute minimum. Here is what I’m doing to keep your fur babies safe and cool during their spa day:

​🌡️ I am strictly monitoring the salon’s internal temperature to ensure it stays a comfortable environment.

​💧 Fresh, chilled water is available at all times, and I am giving every dog frequent, mandatory water breaks throughout their groom.

​💨 Cooler Drying, I am limiting the use of the stand dryer (which generates extra heat). Instead, I’ll be using the velocity dryer on a cool air setting. Please note: This keeps your pup much cooler, but it means drying might take a little longer than usual!

​🛋️ Dogs will be given extra time to rest and chill out between grooming steps so they don’t get overworked or stressed by the heat.

​🐾 Paw Pad Protection: I'm keeping a close eye on the ground temperature outside the salon door so no sensitive paws get burned coming or going.

​How you can help:
🚗 ​If you have an appointment coming up, please try to cool down your car before putting your dog inside for the drive over, and arrive at the time of your appointment to save waiting around in the heat.

💩 Ensure your dog has had a toilet break before arriving but do not exercise/run your dog before the appointment.

​If your dog is elderly, brachycephalic (flat-faced breeds like Pugs or Frenchies), or has underlying health conditions, please let me know so we can take even more specific precautions.

If I believe your appointment would be better off rescheduled I will get in touch as soon as possible.

Get Summer Ready ☀️

The bank holiday weekend is set to be a scorcher and hopefully the rest of the summer will follow suit!

The Old English Sheepdog 🐾

Famous for it's big, long shaggy coat. The maintenance required to keep the coat matt free requires hours of weekly brushing.

Whilst Mabel's owners had been doing a great job of maintaining her coat and had bought all the grooming kit to do it themselves feeling daunted about the full groom task in front of them they decided to bring her to Jo at Tidy Tails for a professional groom.

A summer cut was requested "but not too short".

An obliging Mabel stepped up into the bath with a little encouragement for a hydrobath with Wildwash Deep Clean shampoo. Mabel was fluff dried to ensure her coat was perfectly prepped before clipping with a 1" comb attachment.

Jo scissored her paws and legs to ensure a perfect finish. Some matts on her ears were carefully scissored and brushed out and her head was scissored to tidy it up but left long to keep the Old English Sheepdog look. Her nails were clipped and dremmelled and her ears were cleaned with BuddyCare ear cleaner. Finishing with a spritz of Wildwash calming fragrance.

Mabel was a perfectly gentle and patient doggy and we can't wait to see her again in a few weeks time.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and at Tidy Tails, we know that sometimes the best therapist has four legs and a cold nose. 🐕🐾

Life can get loud, messy, and stressful. But there’s a special kind of magic in the way a dog senses you’ve had a tough day. Whether it’s a gentle head on your lap, an over-excited greeting at the door, or just their calm presence while you work, dogs have a way of grounding us when we feel adrift.

They are the ultimate listeners. They never judge, never interrupt, and are always on our side.

They are stress relievers. Science shows that petting a dog lowers cortisol (the stress hormone) and increases oxytocin (the feel-good hormone).

They make us laugh on our saddest days, lifting our mood with their funny antics.

Pomeranian Transformation 🪄

This lovely bundle of fluff had patella surgery recently. Pomeranians can be prone to alopecia and clipping their hair short can mess with the hair growth resulting in alopecia.

As the clipped area has shown very little regrowth since the operation, Jo recommended the Wildwash magic mud which is enriched with magnesium, green coffee oil and geranium to sooth and nourish the skin and encourage healthy coat growth. This was applied during his hydro bath after shampooing with Wildwash beauty and shine and massaged in for 10 mins for maximum effect.

As he has recently had surgery his owner advised he had become a little feisty when handled, probably in anticipation of pain, so Jo was considerate in the way he was handled, watching his body language constantly for signs of stress and discomfort, listening to him throughout to ensure he did not have to display any "feisty" behaviour to communicate his dislike to something.

He was then carefully fluff dried before having a nice little outline trim around his rear end and skirt leaving little baggy trousers as requested.

As he felt safe and seen he was a very good and content boy for the full groom.

Doesn't he look like a cuddly fluffy cloud now. 🐶🐾☁️
