Rusty hopes you and your feline friends are keeping cool in this heatwave!

Here are some easy tip you can use to help keep everyone safe.

😺Check sheds, greenhouses and summerhouses before closing them up. Cats can find their way into warm areas if they're looking for a cosy spot, but could get too hot or dehydrated if they become trapped.
🐯Never leave animals in hot cars, conservatories, outbuildings or caravans, even if it's just for a short while. Temperatures can quickly rise to 47°C (117°F) in these environments, which can be fatal.
😻Where safe, keep windows and doors ajar to allow a breeze through the house. If your cat lives indoors full-time, consider different options such as windows with locking mechanisms, which allow air into the house while also keeping your cat indoors.
🐱Use pet-safe sun cream on exposed parts of your cat's skin, such as the tips of their ears and nose. This is especially important if your cat has white or light-coloured fur, as they can be very vulnerable to getting burnt. Speak to your vet if you're unsure which product it's best to use.
😻Ensure your cat always has access to shade and fresh drinking water to help keep them cool.
🐯Put ice cubes into your cat's water bowl or make some tasty ice cube treats.
😻Give your pet damp towels to lie on or an ice pack wrapped in a towel - both will provide welcome relief from the heat.
😺Groom them regularly - regular grooming in warmer weather can help brush away any dead or excess hair, leaving your cat with a less dense coat - much better for staying cool!

On this sunny bank holiday, I am sure the last thing you are thinking about is raffle & tombola prizes !

However, I have a few rare spare minutes, so have time to think about raffle & tombola prizes 😆

The Offenham Wake day event is on 13th June and I will be helping out there.

Raffle & tombola prizes are need to help raise funds for future village events, if you have anything you could donate, I would be very grateful.

Please bring items along, when you are bringing or collecting your cat or items can be left in the porch 😻

☀️ Advice On How To Keep Your Cats Cool In This Hot Weather ☀️

We’ve been very lucky recently with all this sunshine, but with temperatures set to rise over the weekend and into next week, we wanted to share some helpful tips on how to keep your cats cool, safe, and comfortable during the warmer weather 🐾

🐱 Make sure your cats always have access to fresh, cool water. Placing extra water bowls around the house and garden can help.

🌤 Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms and making sure there are shaded areas available both indoors and outdoors.

🧊 Some cats enjoy cooling mats, damp towels to lie on, or even frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel placed nearby.

☀️ White and light coloured cats are more prone to sunburn, especially on their ears and noses, which can increase the risk of skin cancer. A high factor 50 sun cream should be applied to their ears before they go outside in sunny weather.

🪮 Cats moult more during warmer weather, so regular grooming can help remove excess fur and reduce the risk of uncomfortable furballs.

🚫 Avoid travelling with your cat during the hottest parts of the day where possible, and never leave cats in conservatories, sheds, or enclosed hot spaces.

🍽 Wet food can help increase your cat’s water intake during hot weather, but remember to remove uneaten food promptly so it doesn’t spoil in the heat.

😺 Watch for signs your cat may be overheating, including:
• Panting
• Drooling
• Lethargy or weakness
• Breathing difficulties
• Vomiting

If you are concerned your cat may be suffering from heatstroke, please contact your vet immediately.

Please also remember that stray and outdoor cats struggle in the heat too - leaving out a bowl of fresh water and somewhere shady for them to rest will make a huge difference 💛

Dorothy is in reception today, however she does a lot of cat napping, so won't be answering the phone 😸 but she reminded me to share the news about what one of our cat customer's owner is up to ! 🙂
