Father's Day is this Sunday.

Don't let your cat be an absent father!

Make sure your male cat is not making kittens all over your neighborhood.

Neuter your male cat to prevent unwanted babies, to stop him from roaming, to prevent cancer, to stop him from spraying, and to stop him from fighting other male cats.

When we talk about the toll that giving birth takes on young cats, please look at this picture and appreciate that Tiger Lilly has been fortunate enough to be in an amazing foster home where she and her kittens have been loved and cared for.

Tiger is little more than a year old herself, and arrived with us heavily pregnant, having been abandoned by her humans. She gave birth to four kittens and has given them her all, being the most incredible mama.

Yesterday her kittens, aged 8 weeks, were adopted and Tiger, having been spayed a week ago, has also found a home...but now she is poorly, suffering with mastitis which is very, very painful (human mums who have suffered this will undoubtedly concur!!).

Upon seeking medical advice, Tiger has been rushed to the vet (out of hours, due to it being a bank holiday weekend) and is now receiving treatment. We are in no doubt that she will make a full recovery, however we can't help but think of those mama cats who don't have the same support, and even worse, those who give birth alone outside...

Sadly we can't help every cat; we do our best for as many as is physically possible, but we are drowning...we've taken in almost 50 kittens this year already, and "kitten season" is only just beginning!!

Tiger will be just fine, we're sure, but please don't allow your cats to suffer this ordeal...cats can and do get pregnant as early as just four months old, so neutering is essential.

Poor Catty McCatface. Not only is she bearing the burden of the name bestowed upon her by ex-Cattery Team Leader Dan, prior to his departure to pastures new, but this poor little lady is grieving 😞.

Catty's owner sadly passed away, and at 5 years old it is clear that she has been a much-loved pet who is now bewildered at what has happened and why she has been taken from her home and is now in a cattery pen.

Cats like Catty really do break your heart, as they don't eat, they withdraw and they grieve just like humans...who says animals don't feel heartbreak the way we do??!

Catty is a beautiful girl who clearly has so much love to give. With the softest fur and the gentlest nature, she truly is a cat who will be a joy to share your life and lap with!

She needs a calm, quiet home, most likely as an only cat as that is all she has ever known (to our knowledge).

To offer her this please complete our online form: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=rspcaworcester&method=online_form_html&formid=1

Tortoiseshell cats, sometimes called β€˜torties’, are known for their uniquely beautiful multi-coloured coats. 😻 Tortoiseshell isn’t actually a breed, it’s a coat pattern, just like tabby. 🐈

The science behind the β€˜shell πŸ‘‡

🧬 Tortoiseshells have not one, but two co-dominant colour genes (black and orange) working together to make the unique coat patterns.

🧬 Most tortoiseshell cats are females because it’s the two X chromosomes that carry the genetic information for coat colour. The Y chromosome that males have, doesn’t impact on their coat colour. But sometimes a male cat can be born with XXY chromosomes, making it possible but unusual for a tortoiseshell coat!

*** TWILIGHT QUARTERLY REVIEW ***
We started the year with 13 residents, 1 cat boarding at a local cattery (Masha) and 1 permanent foster (Echo).

Since then, we have bid farewell to three residents. In January, we found the perfect home for gorgeous Georgie (the young tortie who came in last summer with Ginge) and then, very sadly, we lost our two eldest boys: Casper (21) and Thomas (just shy of his 19th birthday).

However, we have been able to welcome six new residents:
FIGGY (15) AND PUDPUD (14) - Mother and son.
CUDDLES (17)
MOLLIE (18)
WOLFIE (18)
CHLOE (12+)

We are also now boarding a second cat at the cattery: MR CHOLMONDLEY-WARNER (17) after the sudden death of his owner.

DONATIONS for the quarter total a magnificent Β£3595.65. This includes a substantial donation from one of our new resident's family, the proceeds of our Christmas 2023 Appeal and first ever February food drive, plus a welcome gift from the Margaret Eleanor Cowley Charitable Trust.

We thank each and everyone of you who has contributed to this total. All the small donations really do add up and help us provide a vital lifeline to these seniors.

Our priority for the next quarter is to bring Masha and Mr Cholmondley-Warner into the retirement home.

We had hoped to be close to completion of our second garden lodge by now, but this project has hit a number of hurdles. Firstly, the site needs some essential groundworks - which only became evident once the old decking was entirely removed. We also need to replace rotten fence panels surrounding the area. A recommended landscape gardener thoroughly inspected the works and promised to get a quote to us within 2/3 days but several weeks later, despite several chases, no estimate is forthcoming. In the meantime, the company who were to build the lodge itself ceased trading! (fortunately no deposit had been made at this point). So hours of planning etc have been wasted and we are no further forward. This project has therefore been put on hold, whilst we construct some temporary accommodation ourselves.

A busy and eventful start to the year!

Hi I’m CJ a very handsome fellow. My owner passed away leaving me alone.
I soo would love a new home.
The young rescues come and go, not giving me a chance to show,
I too have love to give, and would love a chance to live.

Thank you for reading

It's National Siblings Day.

Here's why it's important to adopt 2 kittens instead of one (especially if you don't already have a playful kitty at home.)

As it's National Pet Month, I am going to be sharing a few posts from local animal charities, to raise awareness for them and the many animals they are caring for, who are waiting for new homes. Below is some information from www.nationalpetmonth.org.uk explaining what they do.

Please like and share further posts, thank you 😊

: April 1- May 1 2024
National Pet Month (NPM) celebrates and raises awareness of responsible pet ownership through our educational campaigns and resources across our various platforms. NPM celebrates pet ownership, sharing the many benefits of our cherished companions across the UK.

Whilst the campaign runs from April to May each year via various media outlets, the important messages that NPM endorses run all year-round. We continue to develop informative and important content for both experienced and new pet owners alike.

Before considering adopting a new animal please do some research first.
All rescue animals have already been let down by humans & it really isn't fair to adopt on a wim.. Only when your ready to commit please inbox us for rehoming details.
Domestic/ Feral are two completely different adoption process...
One domestic the other outdoor luxury living.

What is the 3 3 3 rule for cats?

While there are some cats that automatically adjust to a new home as soon as they get there, most do not. The general rule when adopting any animal is the rule of 3-3-3: three days to decompress, three weeks to learn your routine and three months to start to feel at home.
Cats are notorious for disliking change and need plenty of time to adjust to their new environment. For some cats this could be a few hours, but for others it could be weeks, or even months, especially for the more nervous or timid cats, even confident ones can find it extremely stressful.
So be prepared to be patient and you will get there.
Start with one room without Inaccessible hiding areas, food tray toys bed and we normally recommend to leave the cat carrier coverd in the room for a hide away.

Once your cat shows interest in trying to leave the room, or is begging at the door to come out, they're ready to explore the rest of the house! Most cats will adjust within one to two weeks. If you have a multiple-animal household, it may take several months for everyone to fully adjust.
Only adopted if your prepared & willing to give the time & patience that cats kittens & other animals deserve.
