Now’s the time to get your spring calving herd pregnancy scanned. Our vet Jill spent an afternoon with these ladies scanning them while the farmer vaccinated them. We can also combine scanning with things such as blood sampling.

There has been a lot of talk about veterinary pricing in the news this week as the CMA released their interim findings on the supply of veterinary services for household pets in the UK. At Glenythan vet group we are very proud to be an independant practice. We have no external share holders and no targets to meet. We are part of the local community.
Like many businesses, we have seen our costs rise rapidly over the last couple years and price increases have been unavoidable. However, we are always open and honest about our prices - estimates are always available and we will discuss these with you. We are happy to provide a written prescription where appropriate. We will always put the care of your pet before profit.
We are here for you and your pets 24hours a day, 7 days a week, every week. That, to us, is what veterinary care is all about.

INVITATION! We are delighted to be co-hosting 'Reducing Stress on Scottish Beef Farms' at Lochter Activity Centre next month (Tuesday 18th November). Don't miss this chance to hear directly from:
🐂FERA - the US company that developed FerAppease, a natural pheromone based product to reduce stress that can be associated with management processes like transport and weaning
🐂Prof. Simon Turner (SRUC) - expert in what we can change on farm to reduce livestock stress
🐂North-East beef farmers - who have been applying FerAppease at weaning, purchase and transport to learn more about it's potential in Scotland
🐂Tim Geraghty (Glenythan + Dunnydeer Vet Group) - our own cattle specialist who has been working with the participating farmers to help assess what difference FerAppease might make to cattle behaviour and production

Places are limited! Give us a call directly OR use this link to book:

Still time to test that tup!

With tupping season upon us there may still be time to fertility test the tup. The test is particularly important if you will be running a single tup group, a high ewe ratio or if tupping synchronized ewes. The test is quick and easy and can give re-assurance that all is well. Most tups in good physical condition will pass, but we have been finding sub-fertile tups that are producing poor quality semen despite appearing perfectly healthy. Don’t risk it – get in touch to book.
Tup testing is quick and easy and can be done at the practice with the tup in a livestock trailer. James (vet) and Lauren (nurse) tested 6 tups in about an hour on this day. The image on the right shows poor quality semen cells from an otherwise healthy tup. Notice the bent tail on the cell top right compared to the healthy cell bottom left.
